Owe you a birth story...

...but every time I get 5 minutes to sit and catch up with the computer, it is only 5 minutes!  Today I could probably get to it, but I'm really sorry, I'm just tired!

We are having BF supply issues, which is not helping the jaundice issues, which is causing us to have to supplement, which is causing nipple confusion, which is not helping the supply issues....Vicious, vicious cycle.

We're at the pedi's ofc for labs every morning, then always something.  DS1 had his first dentist appt today, and DS2 and I went to see the lactation consultant.  Yesterday it was labs and first photos.  I just want a day where I can stay in bed and feed the boy.

He's currently lying in the sun (supposed to have him in the sun for 8 hours today, but it's clouding up (sigh)).  With the action plan from the lactation consultant and the order from the pedi to get as much formula/breastmilk into him today as possible, looks like we're going to be feeding/nursing/pumping all the livelong day(and night).

Gonna catch a little cat nap before the power feeding marathon begins!  Maybe that will make things seem less overwhelming!

Pray for low bili labs in the morning.  These heel sticks are rough on the boy (and the mama, too)!

  • I hope things can settle down a bit for you.  t+p for good labs tomorrow!

  • I think all the ladies on here fully understand. Take a nap, pump, feed. Birth story can wait!

And I hope his numbers go down. Those heel sticks are horrible.

  • I hope it improves!
  • Oh no!!  Sounds like the same issues we had with Claire. Sad  She had a bad blood bruise on her head from being vacuumed for 30 minutes during delivery, so we were on high alert for severe jaundice issues.  We also supplemented because she wouldn't eat for two days (wouldn't latch or take a bottle...had to use a syringe), but what ended up helping her was her training pacifier.  The lactation consultants gave it to us at the hospital.  It was the Gumdrop brand, but it's basically a Soothie.  It taught her how to latch, and we were able to stop supplementing after 3 or so weeks.

Just pump, pump, and pump some more to keep that supply up!  I had to start pumping on day one.  It sucks (no pun intended...), but it will help.  When you give him formula, pump.

Keep your head up!  It'll get better.

  • Yeah, you owe us, but resting and taking care of yourself and your kids is WAY more important, so do that!  We'll still be here.  No worries.  Hope that his levels are up soon and you can get him to latch!
