Baby Names

Some "K" names that can be spelled with a "C"??

Hi again,

I wrote a week ago asking for some advice on picking names that start with the letter 'C' to honor our baby boy, Chase, who we lost when I was 21 weeks PG...

One of our top names if he was a girl was Keira...is there any way to spell it with a 'C' without it looking weird?  I couldn't think of how?

Or Kylie?  or some of the other names that start with a "C"...

We do have a few options that we like for boys and girls, but I'm just wondering if there are some 'additional' ones we like that have the hard "K" sound, but can be spelled with a 'C' so we can use that letter...??

Thanks! :)

  • How are you producing Kiera? Kira or Kee-ar-ah? To do it with a C I've seen it spelled Chira or Chiara. I think you can even do Ciera because thats the Celtic spelling for Kiera.

  • Ciara is the Irish/Gaelic spelling of Keira, so that wouldn't look weird and would give you what you want.

Irish names are a great place to go for "C" names since they use the C for the K sound.  So some others are:
Caitlin, Caoimhe (which might be a stretch for your comfort.  I love it and it's pronounced Kee-va, but not an instinctual pronunciation.), Cara, Catherine, Claire, Colleen.

  • Thank you...I'd like to pronounce it like 'Kira' (2 syllables as opposed to 3)...

The way you spelled it with a 'C' could work (though, this is premature, but I enjoy thinking about this after the turmoil I went through lately!)...

Any other great "C" names (girl or boy) is greatly appreciated! :)

Ciara is one of my fave names ever. It would probably be frequently mispronounced as See-air-ah in the US, but if you like the sound of Keira but want it spelled with a C it could be a winner for you.

@Strawberrytree was alluding to this, but I'll say it in a clearer way. Ciara is Irish for Keira and pronounced the same way (with 2 syllables Kee-ra, the way you want it!), like Ciaran is pronounced Keer-en. As Strawberrytree said, there is a likelihood it will be mispronounced as a 3 syllable name in the US, but that's not the actual pronunciation.

  • Ciara is a big GP for me (so is Ciaran for a boy...).  We'll probably go with family names for our next LOs, so don't think I'll get to use either, but I think they're great!
  • So sorry for your loss-- how terrible!

    Ciara is a great idea.

Also, would you consider using Chase's name in the MN spot?  I think it would work for either a boy or a girl and could be a nice tribute.  I realize I might be way off, but I am throwing it out there because I (unfortunately) have a friend that went through something similar and did just that.  I always thought it was such a nice way for her children to be connected to one another.
