How many kids do you want?

I just stumbled upon the blog of a mom that has FOURTEEN kids! Five of them are adopted and the rest are her own biological children. I want a big family, but I can't imagine fourteen! It got me wondering, how many kids does everyone on here want? Feel free to share why in the comments. :)

Re: How many kids do you want?

  • I said 3, but maybe 2. This pregnancy has been hard! I've always wanted to adopt, so either #2 or #3 will be adopted.

  • If you ask me, 3. If you ask DH, 2. Lol. For us it will depend on where DH's military career takes us. If he's gone or we're being juggled around, it'll probably be 2.

This is us too, fiance isn't in the military but that's where we are with how many we want. Who knows though, all of our feelings could change once we actually have a kid!
  • I'm one of six, and I LOVED growing up in a big family even though it meant that we were always poor and a little scrappy. However, I know I wouldn't be able to handle raising that many kids. I used to think I wanted 4, but after how hard this pregnancy has been, I'll be happy to have 2 or 3.

I said two but maybe three depending on when I have my 2nd and how that pregnancy goes. This one was a big rough on me - I'm one of 8 and I love being a part of a big family but I have no idea how my mom did it - I give her a lot of credit

  • I am happy with 2 but prior to this pregnancy we were seriously considering adoption or foster care. Depending on how parenting two goes we would love to adopt or foster but probably not for a long time from now.

  • I'd like to have 3, and my husband said at the beginning of the pregnancy that maybe he wants 4 haha. That's because HE doesn't have to be pregnant! lol. I could have 4, but it all depends on how the first 3 behave and if we have the money! :) My husband grew up with 3 siblings, so he's used to it. I had no siblings and always wished I had at least one.

  • We've always wanted two. Therefore, unless we have a big reversal of heart and vasectomy, this will be my first and last pregnancy.

  • I used to want 2 or 3, but right now I'm pretty content to have just the one LO I'm currently baking. DH used to be set on 2, but once I got pregnant he has been pretty adamant about having only 1. I think he just wants to spoil her :) Also, TTC and pregnancy weren't much fun. If we have a 2nd, I'd love for it to be through adoption and it would likely be not any time soon. So, right now, I don't have an answer as to how many we want. We're just going to roll with things for now and see how things play out. Maybe our family will feel perfect with just one LO, or maybe we'll feel like we'd be more complete with additional kids. I can't say yet!  Basically, we don't currently have any plans for more children, but I'm not yet opposed to the idea.

  • I voted 3 but we'll see how this first one goes.... :)

  • I come from a family of seven. I love coming from a big family. We were not deprived from things at all. I want a big family to just don't have a set number.
  • This is #3 and we want to adopt 1 more down the road.

    Son is 10 yrs old

    Daughter is 8 yrs old

Son is Due Sept 18, 2013

  • I used to say at least 2 and no more than 5. I would love a big family but 2 will be it for us. I don't enjoy pregnancy and we are both happy that after this LO arrives we will have a girl and boy. For us we feel that our family is complete.
  • I voted four because that is what I have now and I got a tubal so no more.

  • I'm the oldest of 9 ( youngest one is expected in February) and H is the youngest 6 so we want a smallish family. He'd like 2 and I'd like 3 but I accidentally clicked 4!
  • I wanted one originally but we really want a boy so we will be trying for a boy and hoping to stop at two. We live in VHCOL area so I don't think more then two is realistic for us if we want to have any discretionary income .
  • This is my third and last pregnancy. This shop is closed. However, DH and I have not ruled out adopting one more.
  • I want 3, DH wants 2, but I don't know if my body can go through with this again. lol!

  • I'd like 3.... If it were up to my DH we'd have 4 or 5.... I told him when he can give birth, I'll consider ;-)

  • When I was a kid I said 6. Now, being a grown up (ha!) and actually having to provide for this LO my mind has wised up. I say 2 but DH is pretty set on 2. We'll see how it goes, this is our first so you never know :) I'm one of 4 and he's one of 3.
  • We've always said 2, but pregnancy was not the magical journey I always thought it was. Plus, the c-section was no picnic (actually it was just the spinal block that was excruciating!) I dunno... I'll have to reexamine in a couple years.

  • I've always thought I wanted 3, and DH wants 2. Now that we have had our first, I feel like I want more than 3...but we'll see how raising this one goes. It's tough to beat these newborn cuddles and exciting new experiences. We've met our challenges, so I know it isn't easy, but it's tough to say that I'll be able to stop if the rest are this amazing.

  • I said 5, but DH and I really want 4-5 biological children. After that, we might also foster parent. We'd be open to adopting if any foster children in our home became available, but that isn't our primary intent. That said, I'd also be happy with more than 5 biological children.

Basically, we are taking each child as he or she comes. We don't feel like our family is complete yet, so we'll have a third and reevaluate again. :)
    Mommy to N (3), J (2), and C (10 months). LO4 is due in mid-September.

  • I said 2, but I might go for 3. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

  • I voted for 2 since that is what I would like to have but if you ask DH he will say 1.  Most likely DH will get his way though since we are both already older (I am 35 and he is 40).  It took us a year to get pregnant with this one.  If we do ever get to have 2 kids the next one would most likely be through adoption.

  • Always wanted 6 growing up. At some point it changed to 4... Don't remember when or why. DH is 2nd of 7, I'm 2nd of 2. LOVE the dynamics of his big family. Unknowingly, we both said at least 4 when we went thru marriage prep weekend retreat. After our 4th, I just didn't have that feeling that I was "done". Can't explain it. But I also wasn't in a hurry for #5. 4yrs later, we lost our little angel and confirmed I had some abnormalities that caused only minor complications with DS3&4. I was treated and was thrilled to conceive 2 months after we got the all clear! Baby 6 is on the way, with Angel 5 ever in our hearts.

  • This is my second and last pregnancy . I hate being pregnant. I am a workaholic and pregnancy has slow me down big time . I am excited and can't wait for the end result but I do not like what it does to my body. I already signed my consent for tubal ligation and my husband is all for it also. My daughter is 10 yr old and I am starting all over again ; there is way too much discomfort associated with pregnancy.
  • I didn't even vote, because I have no clue!!!

  • Ha, I want to know who said 10+ as well. :)

  • I said three, but I might have already missed the boat on my desired time frame. My brother and I are 11 years a part and it is great. We've got along wonderfully our entire lives, and I appreciate the benefit of having a sibling, while having none of the fights that can go along with it. While I don't want to wait quite as long as my parents did, I think at least 5 to 6 years between kids would be nice. I know plenty of people have kids fairly close together, but that just isn't for me. I'm having my first one now at 27-almost 28. I'm not decided yet on if I am okay having a baby at 38 -40. (My mom did it at 39.) Of course, it took a bit to get pregnant with this one, so who knows - I might still be trying for number two come when I am 38-40! (That being said, I told my husband we better be careful and not assume that just because it took a while with number one, that we won't get pregnant the first time out with number two!)

  • This is #3 and we are done! With DH being military, 3 is all I can handle knowing I am alone with them a lot. We started talking about #4 and I just can't. Thinking about 3 kids during moves, deployments, etc and I got this....thinking about 4 kids and I started to panic.

  • H & I have talked for years about having two homegrown kids and two adopted kids, but I don't think we'd be allowed to adopt.

Given that, we may stop at two kids, or may push for three homegrown.  I think four might be a stretch, but it's not outside the realm of possibility.
