What brand of prenatals are you taking?

My Dr's office ordered a prescription for me, but that particular brand was going to cost me $55 a month, with insurance.  I really didn't want to sign up for $55 / month, so I'm just taking Similac prenatals + DHA from Walgreens right now.

Do you guys take prescription prenatals or OTC, and what brand?

  • $55 a month, yikes!!  I take the Target brand (up & up) of prenatal vitamins and an additional DHA supplement since the vitamin doesn't have it in there.  The DHA is Nature Made (I think).  I've been taking them since before I got pregnant and haven't had to buy more yet.

  • my prescription are expensive, but they are the only ones I have taken that don't make me sick, and with two in there, I feel like I really need the extra.

I got a sample box that came with a coupon at least. CitraNatal Assure

  • I take NatureMade with DHA and ARA. they're usually buy one get one free at CVS which is awesome.

  • PreNate Minis. They are under $5 with the RX coupon from the manufacturer. Have DHA in them too, but much smaller than a lot of the others (and only 1 pill!)

  • Prena1 with Quatrafolic, and an addition supplement of folic acid because I have a folic acid deficiency. My prenatals with insurance are $30 a month.

It's this brand, but mine are the purple ones, I think they have different variations depending on your needs. Prescription only.

  • 2 Flintstone's chewables. Everything's making me sick this time. Last time I did gummies for a bit and then One-A-Days which are really 2 a days. I tried those, CitraNatal sample pack, and generics and they all made me feel worse, so I'm on Flintstone's til I feel more human again.

I just watched this video about how you literally get what you pay for as far as prenatals. When you decide to buy the cheap brand, some of those vitamins don't fully breakdown and you end up passing them whole and then you are not getting the nutrients you should. Here is that video.. just made me think about what I should be taking..  :)

I take Concept OB and they are 45$ a month for me.

  • MegaFoods Baby & Me Prenatal.  I like Genevieve at MamaNatural.com and she recommended it.  It is food based, all natural.  I really like it.  It's not that cheap but I figure what the heck, it's for the baby.  (Also, not sure if this has any correlation, but I was taking a store bought prenatal since December, started TTC in March, started taking the MegaFoods June 1 and conceived around July 1.)

I also take Vitamin Code B-complex for extra Folic Acid and because I am a bit deficient in B-12.

And finally I recently started taking a prenatal DHA which I cannot remember the name of...

  • I take the ones that were prescribed by my doctor. I've actually been taking them since January when we started TTC. They're free with my insurance so you can't beat that! I tried the Target brand gummy ones for a while but I can't get over the taste of them.

  • I take Rainbow Lights.  $25 on Amazon for 150 pills.  I take a separate DHA supplement.  Super gentle on the stomach if that's an issue for you and they have a probiotic that keeps me regular!
  • I am taking Raw Code Naturals (another mamanatural.com recommendation) and I am unsure about how much they cost.  In the beginning I was taking Rainbow light but after they came up a few times I had to switch.

  • Stuart Prenatal with DHA - gel pills. These were the only ones that didnt make me nauesous. I found them at Walgreens after my OB suggested them.
  • My PCP prescribed me Prenatal Plus which my insurance covers and I don't have to pay a dime!  I am also taking an over the counter brand of DHA that the pharmacist recommended.  I also take them at night so they don't upset my stomach.

  • Not taking any, but I currently have a prescription for them. I've been so sick I'm scared to take anything that will make it worse.
  • I'm taking Rainbow Light. They are easy on my stomach and I tend to be sensitive to medications. I've been happy so far and I like only having to take one a day. I thought about switching to the MegaFoods brand (another Mama Natural fan!) but I don't think I'd remember to take 3-4 a day.
  • I take Spring Valley Prenatal pills from Walmart which are like $10 for 240 pills. I haven't had any issues here. From other moms I have talked to, they took the same or took the Spring Valley gummies.
  • I signed up for the healthy baby club at my pharmacy so I get them for free. They are exactly like materna, but I don't have to pay. I also got free diapers and stretch mark cream, it was a win/win situation

  • Nature Made. They don't upset my stomach now & didn't with DS.
  • Thanks for all the recommendations!  I had an appointment yesterday evening, and the Dr. ordered a different prescription (can't remember the name) that is totally covered by insurance.  She told me as long as it has 1mg of folic acid and DHA it didn't matter what brand.

    Thanks again!

  • I've been taking the CVS prenatal + DHA. It's very gentle on my system. The bonus is its buy one month, get a month free. $18 for two months! Happy mama here!
  • My doctor put me on TheraNatal Core.  I got a coupon from my OB, so it's about $20 per month.  I think he chose this one for me because it has 1mg Folic Acid and a ton of D3 which apparently I'm very deficient in (they put me on 6000 IU a day).  I definitely noticed a huge difference in my hair and nails when I started taking this one vs. the first prenatal I was taking.

  • I take the Rainbow Light as well.  I buy them at CVS.  I always prefered taking vitamins that are from natural sources as opposed to synthetic.  They are easy on the stomach and I have not had any issues with constipation.
  • I was given a complimentary bottle of prenatals from the pregnancy center - the brand is called MAJOR. I told my midwife about them and she said I should stop taking those as they have red dye 30 in them. She recommended I take Rainbow Lights instead and I feel much better after going on those. My extreme cravings have stopped, I guess because my body is getting the vitamins it needs now :)
