The name we have picked out for D is Charlotte. It was ranked 200 in 2000 and has grown to 87. i hope it doesn't grow more but i figure iit's pretty, not overused but common, and she probably won't have 4 more in every class growing up.
We had a bunch of less popular and more unique (and NOT unique for unique's sake) names picked out for a girl but when we found out we were having a boy, we had a lot less that we liked. But we loved the name Noah, and despite not wanting a top 10 name, went with it. Even if there are 5 other Noahs, I am sure he will be unique! Also, thinking back on my own childhood, kids with the popular names tended to be pretty popular. Not sure if that's just small sample size, coincidence, or an actual thing where familiarity of the name has an effect.
Sebastian is #64, but we spell it the French way: Sebastien. Loophole lol. I never knew that until I looked it up just now though. Popularity was not a deciding factor for us either way.
LO's name isn't in the top 1000. It was important to me that his name wasn't popular because I hated that there were so many Courtneys my age in school.
Our DS isn't even in the top 1000 for the past 13 years. I wanted a name that was different but not so off the wall that people would wonder if we were sober when we picked it. My husband actually picked the name and I loved it from the very beginning.
My oldest sons name starts with an A and our daughters starts with a B... we did NOT plan this in any way. In fact we didn't even notice it till we were trying to think of a name for our new baby. So my husband, being the goofball he is, said that his name had to start with a C that way he could tell people he knew his ABC's.
