extremely high prolactin levels (not pregnant) HELP

I took all of my IVF lab work and my prolactin level came back extremely high. The Dr is concerned because he said this only shows in pregnant and nursing moms! I'm not pregnant! Anyone else experience this? I'm kind of worried. I went to retake the lab because the doctor was confused and I'm waiting on the results.

    I hope you don't mind me responding since you don't have PAIF or all welcome in your sig.  How high is high?  I was found to have high prolactin in college when I didn't get my period after I stopped birth control.  It was 1200.  They did an MRI, found a pituitary tumor, put me on meds, tumor shrunk, and all was fine until I tried to conceive.  We did IVF and out second FET worked.  Your prolactin levels can fluctuate throughout the day.   Mine is currently at 220 but they are not worried unless it gets above 500.  I would assume, depending on how high your level is, that you should have an MRI to rule out a pituitary prolactinoma.  Are you ovulating on your own and having regular periods?

    Married June 2011 Dx: anovulatory due to prolactinoma (1.5cmx 1.5cm in 2006)
    April 2012: MRI- questionable cyst 8mg by 12mm in pituitary ; referred to RE by Ob-gyn after amenorrhea x 4+ months, provera ineffective, low estrogen level
    cycle 1: May 2012, clomid 50mg; cycle cancelled, thin lining, no response
    cycle 2: June 2012, femara 5mg; cycle cancelled, no response
    cycle 3: July 2012, femara 7.5mg; cycle cancelled (largest folli on Cd12 & cd 16: 11, lining 4)
    Repeat MRI July 25,2012- Cyst unchanged, likely old infarction.
    Aug. 8: met with RE, move to injectables if HSG and SA normal
    Aug. 23: HSG all clear; DH- perfect
    Switched to a new RE in early Sept. IVF here we come
    Genetic testing reveals: Fragile X- Intermediate risk/grey zone.
    IVF#1: ER 11/30: 14 retrieved, 10 mature, 7 fertilized. E2 prior to trigger 5200. Decision made to freeze 6 embryos and transfer later due to OHSS.
    IVF#1.2/FET #1: estrogen injects start 1/18, FET delayed to try to thicken lining. lining 5.4mm. FET- 2/18- transferred one 3AA expanded blast. BFP 5dp5dt. Beta #1- 2/27 9dp5dt- 102.27 beta #2 3/1: 147 :(, beta #3 3/4: 268 told to stop meds and let nature take its course. requested 4th beta (3/6); Beta hell for 2 months.

    FET # 2: endometrial scratch 5/6, added estrace vaginally and ASA to delestrogen and PIO. June 10- transferred one 4AA hatched embryo, BFP 4dp6dt, Beta 1 (9dp6dt) 187, Beta 2 (11dp6dt): 412; Beta 3 (15dp6dt ): 4452. U/S #1- one beautiful embryo with a heartbeat of 133 at 7 weeks.  8 weeks: heartbeat 156. EDD 2/26/2014: born 2-3-14 induced due to Pre-E and HELLP at 36w5d.

    12/1: met with RE to discuss trying for #2

    I always get this whenever DH and I have sex before a blood test. Last time I was put on strict orders of no booby touching and had to get retested. Slept in a bra for 2 weeks before the test. I made sure my arms didn't rub against my boobs, the dogs didn't jump on them (they're big dogs and jump high). My nurse said it is sometimes common with women with larger chests.

    Wow! You will be shocked to hear what's going on. My Fertility doctor called this morning with the results of my 2nd prolactin blood work results and they said it's still extremely high (720) and they are going to order me an MRI to see about pituitary tumors! Needless to say I am soooo worried. Since we started the invitro process things just keep popping up. I have surgery next week to remove my right tube that is leaking fluid and now an MRI. I just want some good news. Thanks so much for the reply. If you don't mind me asking, were you worried about the tumors being cancerous?

    It is scary but prolactinomas are the best pituitary tumor to have because they respond so well to meds. Mine was 1.5cm by 1.5cm and shrunk with medication. The worst part was I couldn't get pregnant and had to do IVF which it sounds like you are already doing. During pregnancy, I have to have visual field tests monthly and prolactin checked every 2 months. Keep me updated on what happens. They may want to get your prolactin under control before you start injections since the hormones can make it even more elevated. Good luck and feel free to page me on paif with any questions.

    I was also diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. It was really scary initially but it really doesn't seem to be a big deal. I take medication for it. However, when I go off the meds, it seems to come back (I tried to ween myself off once!) The worst part for me was the weight I gained before figuring it out. No matter how much exercise/diet, it's super hard for me to lose anything! Good luck with everything coming up though. I too found that one thing after another began popping up with this ivf journey.

    DH: Low count, low motility/morphology Me: Prolactinoma 
    IVF w/ ICSI #1 June 2013 ER12, M10, F8 - 4dt of 1 morula and one 8 cell grade 1.5 (1 being best)- BFN
    None to freeze
    IVF w/ICSI #2 .....November 2013 - Cancelled - Once again, my eggs matured too quickly. Converted to IUI BFN
    Added prenatal, metformin, coQ10, DHEA and acupuncture. 
    IVF w/ICSI #2 (again) January 2014 ER 11, M9, 4F. Transferred 3 embryos (2.5 grade) - BFN 

    Moving on to Adoption!
