I'm surprised so many of you still have home phones. Why?
We have a landline for a few reasons. First, I like having a "family" number that we use on school and doctor forms. It's also the number I give out when I don't want to share my cell phone number. Also, while cell service is pretty good in our house, our landline gets better reception and is more reliable. Oh, and finally, we've moved so many times that having a landline allows us to have a local area code without having to change our cell numbers. Is it a luxury? Yes, sort of like cable. I honestly don't think I'd miss cable at all if we got rid of it. But we like having it for "convenience" (for lack of a better term), i.e. for the times we want to watch something. The extra $70 bucks a month or whatever we'd save is such a tiny fraction of our monthly bills/savings we'd hardly notice it.

These are all of the reasons I like having a landline.  Also, correct me if I'm wrong but in an emergency they can't determine the exact location from a cellphone call like they can from a landline.

Because my husband is stubborn. lol He hates being "tied down" to a cell phone - he won't even get a smartphone, still has an old flip phone. If he's home, his phone is on a shelf unattended, most likely on silent. He wants a home phone, because "if he's home, people can call him at home." Who knows? He's an 80 year old man in a 27 year old body. haha
Ha.  Your hubby sounds just like me.  I refuse to get a smartphone.  I have my old flip phone from like 7 years ago and when I'm home my cellphone is on vibrate and half the time I don't even know where it is in my house.

  • I could do it easily just w our Netflix subscription bc I don't watch much tv anymore but mh really likes sports so it won't happen at our house...
  • We gave up cable tv over a year and a half ago when I was laid off, it was a tough choice but I don't even miss it now. We have hulu and Netflix and I also found an online site where I catch my HBO/Showtime shows I can't live without

  • We gave up cable a year and a half ago. We also have Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu Plus that we watch through our PS3. MUCH cheaper! I miss cable, mainly Food Network, but with all 3 of those I rarely run out of things to watch. I can also watch them on my iPad.

  • Never! I love cable and it only costs us like $80/month.

  • I've never had it. Never. We Netflix many shows; watching them at our convenience. When I'm somewhere with cable TV I occasionally enjoy something I never otherwise watch, but its never made me wish I had cable.

  • I personally haven't had cable in 10+ years (couldn't afford it when living on my own), and DH didn't seem to care when we moved in together 5 years ago. We need internet anyway (we both run our own business), so we pay $56/mo for that.

    $8 for Hulu Plus
    $8 for Netflix

And when there's a series on that we watch (Breaking Bad, Walking Dead) we buy those on Amazon Instant. Then we can watch and rewatch them when we want. It's nice to not be a slave to the regularly scheduled programming.
