If you have and like the Moby...

Are you tall?  Or at least long waisted?

I have tried the Moby with each of my children and it has never really worked for me. Instead I have used a bjorn (can't find it yet post house move though.) I have tried the Moby twice so far with DD as a last resort when I can't get her to settle by nursing, but she still cries. Admittedly I'm not going on long walks with it so I never get a steady pace, I'm using it when I need to get things done around the house for her brothers. It occurred to me that maybe it doesn't work for my kids because I am short waisted? So their little legs are really scrunched up. Or are all babies' legs scrunched in a Moby?

It just seems like such a waste of money; three kids and I can count on two hands the amount of times I've used it.

  • I have a hard time fitting with carriers and slings. I'm not short waisted at all, but my waist is high and LO always ends up sitting high. The moby is not a great fit, but I keep trying with it and I'm beginning to like it better. I see what you mean about it feeling like a waste of money. I'm willing myself to make it work.

  • I have a Moby but actually haven't used it yet. It's way too hot. I got a wrap that's just the same but made from a non stretchy gauze type material. I LOVE it. It is much less fabric to deal with and breathable.
I personally haven't done this yet since the closest is over an hour away but check and see if there is a baby wearing international chapter near you. Or maybe a boutique type shop with some veteran baby wearers that can give you real life pointers?

  • im short wasted and I love mine. how old is your lo? you may need to switch to.a carry with their legs out. I like the kangaroo wrap or you can do the big hold with their legs out.

  • I'm short and love my moby. I also use a hold with his legs out though. Maybe try that so baby's legs aren't all squished.
  • I'm short waisted and like mine. The key for me is making sure I start it at the smallest point of my waist (which is higher than my belly button). Also, you can carry with baby's legs out if they don't seem to be comfortable with them tucked in.

I am only 5'2" and shorter waisted and I love my moby. The more i use it the more comfy I get with it and like it more.
I found for me the key was to start way higher than my belly button oft LO was to low.
Also I wear it wIth baby's legs out.

I did have it fitted on me at the boutique where I bought it after DS1 was born. It seemed to work in the store with him, but I could ever recreate that pleasantness. ha!

I'll try some of the other wraps in the booklet, I have only used the basic one so far. Thanks, ladies.

  • I'm pretty average at 5'5" and love my Moby. My LO is pretty long and sometimes I leave her legs out but other times she likes them scrunched up. She likes it no matter if I'm sitting or walking. The only drawback is that it seems to make us both hot. She got a heat rash from it the other day.
  • Try it with her legs out. DD2 liked it much better that way. Hug hold I guess it's called.

  • I have the Moby, am short and short wasted with huge boobs...a recipe for Moby disaster....and I didn't like it until I stumbled on the ka'tan (sp?) website looking at other options. They have a video on the website for how to wrap the ka'tan...and it's different than how to wrap the Moby. I used my Moby to mimic the wrap and now I LOVE it and use it all the time. So google the ka'tan wrap, and watch the video on their homesite and see if it helps you guys too!
