Not talking to other kids

DD, who is almost 2, talks A TON at home and other places she's familiar with (my grandparents' and parents' homes/etc). However, when she goes to school 2 days a week, she's yet to really talk to other kids there. She's very talkative when she's around 1-2 other girls at a time that we see every now and then, but there's about 7-10 other kids in her class at school, which she just started a few weeks ago, so not sure if that's why or because most of the other kids are younger or what. She enjoys playing/etc but just not talking while there yet. Any clues to help her be more social (not that I may be able to do anything anyway, since I'm not there)?

Re: Not talking to other kids

  • Ha ha I'm 34 and I'm the same way: I'm quite talkative around my close friends and family but much quieter around new people or in large group settings. i think it's fine and normal for your daughter to be like that, so I really wouldn't push the socialization unless she seems upset by school.

THIS! I'm the same.  I didn't talk at school until like 3rd grade when I finally came out of my shell,  there wasn't anything wrong with me just super shy in large groups

  • That is a good point. I guess it doesn't matter right now -- just hoping she will participate in singing activities now and reading later on, but maybe she will...
