Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Breastmilk in a sippy cup

I am curious...I have talked to a few people and they said that you can give your child BM from a sippy cup.

My questions is, if you are EBF, does your baby feel like they are still eating? For example, my child WILL NOT take a bottle, but is doing well with her sippy. My fear is that if I pump and she gets her BM from a sippy cup that she will feel like she hasn't eaten, because she didnt take it from the breast.

Or is that really not an issue, and if LO is full then she is full.

Anyone have experience with this?

I EBF and my lo has never accepted a bottle. She did start drinking from a sippy cup at 3 months. The trick is to pace them with a cup. I stop every .5 to 1 ounce to burp and walk for two minutes. If I didn't do this, she could finish 4 ounces in about 3 minutes and would not feel full. Going slowly with the sippy gives their tummy and brain time to realize they are full.

  • We switched from a bottle to a sippy with our oldest when she was like 9 months and it nearly ruined our BFing relationship. She was getting milk so fast from the sippy and started to have no patience with nursing. With #2 we kept her on a slow flow bottle and didn't have the same problem.
