constipation!

I am seriously constipated. I also have been trying to pass kidney stones so the pressure is worsening my pain. I've tried my raisin bran crunch, fresh fruits and veggies, even tried stool softeners. I really don't want to take laxatives because I see the urologist this afternoon. Any help its greatly appreciated!

Re: constipation!

  • Prunes, prune juice (I know a lot of people hate prunes but it helps), activia yogurt, a cup of coffee or tea. I've found I have to stay on top of it or I have a really bad constipation day, so I have a few prunes a day and some activia with my breakfast.

  • Miralax is the only thing that finally worked for me, but it took 5 days to work.  :(

  • I've been drinking a little homemade ginger tea.  Just some fresh ginger root, peeled and cut up or shredded, steeped in hot water for a while.  Add whatever sweetener you like, and wa-la.  Do not overdo it because there will be rumblings down below.  But, it helps my sinuses/cold symptoms as well as my, er, intestinal back-ups.

I accidentally stumbled on to this when a well-meaning friend told me to steep some ginger for a cold remedy without giving me the 'oh by the way, don't stray far from your bathroom".

  • Miralax!!!! It doesn't work right away, but if you're consistent with it, it definitely works. I had gone over a week and was so desperate, I even tried a suppository (helped a little bit but not much relief) and the miralax is the only thing that did the trick. When you're THAT constipated all the prunes in the world won't help. It took two days though, so be patient! Also, the instructions say one cap full daily--i took three cap fulls until it started to work. Now I just take it every once in awhile as needed.

  • I know constipation is a big problem for alot of us, but please don't take miralax!!!! There is a new article out, of course I don't remember where lol, but it said that it is the same stuff used to preserve would and causes all kinds of horrible side affects, dementia, CNS problems, heart and kidney issues and the list goes on. I know they have these kind of articles on just about everything but I work at a assisted living home and we have taken all our residents off of it. So please ladies, stick with prunes, tea and coffee. I would hate for something horrible to happen to you or your little one.
  • I just put bran in everything. I even made bran muffins with blueberrys and ate them for breakfast for a week straight and it did the trick. Also drinking tons of water
  • Glycerin suppository, not fun but effective...

  • Eat some spicy thai food.  I was craving spicy basil tofu yesterday, and I think I lost 5 pounds as a result!

  • My doctor said only take stool softener becasue the laxatives will cause cramping. I would call your provider before choosing to take anything.
  • I also heard doing a fleet enema will help. Took my 14 week prego friend to the er on saturday and she was is massive pain with constipation. Told her to do a enema and try to hold it for as long as possible. 20-30 minutes to help break everything up. You might have to do that a few times to get it all worked out. I have not tried it, but that's what the er physician suggested.

  • Hi,

I felt like this a few days ago and had some warm milk and literally had to go toilet pretty much straight away.

    Hope this helps!!
