December 2013 Moms

Gained a ton of weight so far? Come on in.

Let's commiserate. I've gained 25 pounds so far.

image

I know right? I keep asking my doctor if I should be worried. She keeps saying it's no big deal. I'm trying not to worry about it - I have a little guy squirming in my belly and given my loss history (and IF issues) I'm grateful for that!

Still, I feel like this

(yes my name is Amy so it's fitting)

How much have you gained and is your doctor saying it's anything to worry about?

Re: Gained a ton of weight so far? Come on in.

  • My first pregnancy I gained 25 pounds by my a/s. I got a leture every appointment there after and it sucked. I know how you feel. Its the worst.
  • Loading the player...
  • I've gained 23 lbs as of Friday.  I gained right around 50 total with each of my other pregnancies, so I'm right on pace! Ha.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me all that much.  I've lost it twice, so I know I can do it again.

  • I am at 22 pounds, I have a feeling my lecture is coming at the next appointment.

  • I've gained about 20-25 lbs too :( The doctor was saying the whole time that the weight gain was fine ... and then the last time he said "Your weight is fine, but make sure you watch what you're eating.." with no further explanation. What the heck is that?! Definitely looking forward to not being pregnant anymore and getting back on weight watchers :)
  • 29 lbs as of this morning. Granted I'm having twins, but I'm only 23 weeks. Perhaps the box of Hostess cupcakes was not a smart choice.

  • I'm hovering around 17 so far, but with my last pregnancy I gained 55 pounds (122 pp to 177). Whoa. My DH weighs about 170 so when I was heaver than him, he started mocking me. :(

  • I've gained 25 (maybe more, I weigh on Saturdays) -- I'm gaining like a pound a week.  I gave up caring around 15 pounds, though.  A switch just kinda flipped in my brain and I was like, "Eh."  It helps that my doctors/midwives haven't mentioned weight gain once, though, and that seems to be unusual for most posters here on our board.

  • At my last appointment I was up 22 pounds. Part of me feels like it's too much, and I asked the doctor, and he seemed to think it was no big deal at all. I'm trying to focus on that. But ... yeah I feel kind of bad about it.

I should mention that I used to work for Weight Watchers and seeing the numbers on the scale really bothers me. I try not to even look. I'm used to having control of my weight!

  • I've only gained 10 at my week 21 check up and I was shocked cause at 19 weeks I hadn't gained anything. Eeek!
  • I weigh in this afternoon..... I an sure that this has been my big month. I feel big.

Mine is the same but I think she is trying not to put too much extra stress on me because of my loss history. She keeps reminding me that women who don't gain enough worry their babies aren't growing, so there's always something to worry about.

I know! I see people out running and I think 'come december (or I guess january more realistically), that will be me! I'll run the weight off!' I used to run quite a bit and I stopped when I got pregnant just mostly out of worry and that's probably part of my issue.

  • 25 pounds as of last week. Doctor and I were both very worried (I was overweight to begin with) so I had an early glucose screening, got the results today and my sugar was perfect! So relieved.
  • Well I was bigger, started looseing weight , and then immdiatly got KU! Just my luck right! I have issues with weight so I don't look at the scale but last time I peeked it was about 20 pounds. I have a thyroid dissorder so my weight is all over the place and my Dr. knows that. He hasen't said anything so I think I am ok. I just hate having "fat face."

It seems to be coming in spurts, for me. I'll gain nothing for a few weeks and then like 4 pounds in a week. I freak out and promise to lay off the donuts, then it slows down for a while and the cycle repeats.

Oh well. A few more months and hopefully we'll all be feeling a lot better.

If mine does this, his gravestone someday will read "Once Made Fun of Wife's Weight; Never Heard the End of It."
Seriously. Is he TRYING to get curb-stomped?

  • At 26 weeks I gained 28 pounds. Wow sharing that is cathartic. Lol I haven't even told my husband. I'm 27 weeks now so who knows currently. I'm exercising 5 days a week and eating what I want but not too crazy or anything. I've been a very healthy eater my whole life so I think my body can't handle junk. Health wise I'm fine. Ugh sucks though.

I'm up 22 pounds at 25 weeks.  I'm hoping (?) maybe wishful thinking? to gain a pound a week until LO gets here...so it will put me at 37 at the finish line.I doubt that will happen though.

It's fun living in my head.

  • Also, I think it's kinda funny (in a sad way?) we all came in here to talk about 15-35 pounds as a "ton" of weight. Don't you lose like the first 20 pounds in the hospital delivering/post-delivery anyway? Or is that more "What to Expect" propaganda?

I sincerely hope you're right. I have no experience but after my m/c, I had gained about 15 pounds at 18 weeks and I lost about 5 or 6 after I came home from the hospital, and then lost a pound day for the next 3 or 4 days. Then the last 5 kinda stuck around.

  • I think I've gained about 17 so far...I hope to only gain 30 at most, but I'll be over that if it's a pound a week. I haven't been working out like I should and at night I always snack, it's a problem. Oh well, just happy to have a healthy baby in there!

this happened for my friend but she has the metabolism of a racing horse. I hope it happens to me.

  • I have gained 26!!  That was at my appointment when  was 24 1/2 weeks.  It bothers me sometimes, but sometimes I am ok with it.  My doctor has not said anything... good or bad.

  • I only weigh in at the doc and as of 19w, I gained 23 lbs! I go back tomorrow so we'll see where I am now. I was within my healthy weight range when I got pregnant and had just come off weight watchers. I think I was actually @ 8 lbs below where my body likes to maintain so as soon as I was able to eat normally after the first few weeks, my body just decided to gain (and gain and gain). My doc hasn't said anything about it so I'm trying not to worry too much. I eat relatively healthy and not much junk food. And I swear I have gained 5+ lbs in my boobs alone! They're as big now as they were before I lost 75 lbs!

I was lectured slightly at my last appt having gained 22 at that point so I went back to strictly tracking my food to be at 2,000 calories as they want, regularly working out AND as of yesterday I have not gained any more weight (appt was over 2 weeks ago so given that I've been gaining 5-7 lbs between my 4 week appts I'm feeling really good about it).

Depends. But for me it was a total sham. I left the hospital with a 7lb baby and weighing the same thing as I did when I came in. Too much fluids from my induction.

You must have been really thin pre-preg if that's you at +60 pounds. You look great in this pic!

And I agree with North. Top-notch dog photobomb.

  • I don't participate as much as some of the other December ladies but I am loving this thread and had to chime in :) 27 lbs here so far! With my first I gained a grand total of 50 lbs (at least that's what I tell myself, I refused to look at the scale at my final weigh in). I lost it all + 10 more pounds by 8 months PP, not to brag or anything, just sayin' it was not the end of the world... Like a PP said I seem to gain no matter what I eat so I gave up trying to control it beyond eating healthy.

  • At 22 weeks I have gained 17-18lbs. but I also started this pregnancy overweight.  The guidelines indicate I should gain no more than 20lbs.  Welp, I am definitely gaining more than 2lbs in the next 18 weeks.

My Dr. has not said a word and did not say a word when I gained 65lbs when pregnant with DS.  The first week postpartum I lost almost 30lbs. and then another 15lbs over a few months.  The last 20 lingered and I only lost 5 of that before getting pregnant again.  That was only because I was lazy about it.

Hopefully this pregnancy I do not gain 65lbs. and I am more motivated to take the weight off once DS2 gets here.
