I know. The purse/diaper bag shit made me ragey.

Carrying on your person while carrying kids freaks me out a bit, but that's because DS managed to squirm and unhook my bra twice and unbutton my pants once. Perhaps he's just super talented?

I conceal carry, but never in my purse, nor diaper bag when we had one. Thats too big of a risk to me. I always carry on my body, and out of reach of DS.

THAT'S why guns scare me. I am sure you're responsible. I am sure tons of people are responsible. But the careless people who store their guns in their purses or who jump to guns as a solution scare the shit out of me.

And those idiots claim to be like you, responsible owners.

Now you don't have to worry about asking people if they have guns in the home during play dates, you also have to worry about Target, the park, the zoo etc.

I'm speechless at the level of paranoia exhibited. I guess I'm a hypocrite because I am similarly paranoid about strangers carrying deadly weapons all the time so I don't know. I will just suffice it to say that I'm quite quite different from many of the women I'm that thread.

Me and dh have our concealed carry and have a gun on us anytime were out. It's like part of us. We shoot often and are responsible gun owners. He has had guns and hunted his whole life and was a soldier for 4 years.

I really dislike the gun stuff.I'm very pro guns. My family is heavy in the military and law enforcement. Almost everyone in my family has a LTC. I mean, my grandpa keeps his guns in their spare bathroom tub (in locked cases and unloaded, I've asked). However, it irritates me that people would be so careless. I've thought about getting my LTC, but in reality I don't need it. I highly doubt I'll be in mugged in the parking lot of Central Market in the middle of the day.

I honestly think it's unfair that I'm supposed to just trust people I've never met to carry guns without me even knowing about it around me and my kid. Like, oh well, that's the price I pay for taking such huge risks as going to Target or the park in broad daylight.

I'm fine with law enforcement carrying because I know they're regularly trained and practiced. I WANT them to have guns.

I would be OK with going to the home of an LEO because I would know that their guns are safe from toddler hands. They know how to be responsible gun owners.

Risk of irresponsible cops as part of having an effective police force = risk I'm fine taking. Risk some cop wannabe with a small penis like Zimmerman shoots my kid as part of allowing any Tom, Dick or Harry to tote a gun with them = risk I am 100 percent not ok with.

Why would you even carry an unloaded gun?? I get your point that unloaded guns are obviously more safe. But why conceal carry an unloaded gun?? It'd basically be only good to pistol whip someone, which is ridiculous

I think I'm in the minority. I'm ok with civilians concealed carrying if they pass background checks, have trained with the firearm, and are responsible with it. I think the majority of gun owners are responsible, with a few exceptions. Not everyone who carries is a vigilante with a mission. Most carry JUST IN CASE someone pulls a gun on them first. I think that is a reasonable worry in today's society.

I can never figure out these discussions because I don't know if the angst is at all gun people or just ones that aren't LEO.

Anyone who is a LEO I basically assume has a firearm on them, and I take no issue with that because I am ok with it. If I had a playdate with child and the parent-male or female-was a LEO, I would reasonably assume they might have a firearm, and I would probably ask if it wasn't obvious. I would feel like I had a choice though if I was uncomfortable (which I'm not*edited: since its part of their profession and civic responsibility, and I feel ok with their ability to be responsible) to say no thanks.

Another parent-I say mother b/c thats all I have run into at this point-who just happens to have a weapon on them is another beast altogether b/c I would never just assume they might have one on them

With law enforcement I am confident in the day to day training moreso than your average layperson, if that makes sense?

Me too. I can't stop thinking about the mom who was mugged at gun point and her baby, who she was pushing in the stroller, was shot in the face and died. For no reason at all.

My chest hurts when I think about that story.

I choose to not have a gun, concealed or otherwise. Personally, I just think that more harm would come of it than good. My FIL carries one at all times, even to church, and the place where he lives is so rural that I could only ever imagine him using it on a bear. I think it is totally unnecessary.

Why can't April 2014 talk about something more productive, like who's hotter, Robin Thicke or Robert Downey Jr.?

To clarify, I don't have an issue with trained, responsible people carrying. That's their choice.

The problem I have is that anyone who owns a gun feels they're trained and responsible. The lady who puts it was told to do that at her concealed carry class. That makes me doubt her training as well as her common sense. I wish the training was better.

From things said these discussions in the past, I don't have an issue with any posters in this thread who've admitted they carry or with their H's carrying. From what has been said, they seem to know and follow the laws and safety rules.

My issue is that people like the diaper bag lady and the lady on the other forum who is ready to shoot a dog who hasn't done any harm are both certified by concealed carry. And that scares the crap out of me.

So, yes, if I found out a mom or dad at a play date had a gun, I'd feel freaked. I've handled and shot guns in the past. It's not that I don't like or don't understand them, it's just that I've heard from so many idiots who call themselves responsible gun owners when they are, in fact, idiots that the very phrase "responsible gun owner" turns me off.

Not because no gun owner can be responsible, but because so many idiots claim it that it has lost a lot of meaning.
