jumperoo or bumbo?

I'm not entirely sure how this is possible, but even though S hates tummy time and rarely if ever lifts her head up when she's doing it, she's already trying to sit up on her own and if I hold her around the torso she loves to look around. I want to get her something to sit up in even though her head is still a little wobbly, but I don't know what would work. The jumperoos are all for ages 6-12 months so I don't know if those would work, but I love the activities they include.

What are you all using to help your LO's sit up on their own if anything?

I don't feel he's ready for a jumper yet. I'm hoping next month because he loves to jump when I'm holding him.

DD loves the jumperoo. We roll up a receiving blanket and put it behind her for support. I think a bumbo seat has a short lifespan for infants, IMO. And, it doesn't have any cool toys attached to it.

We had Charlie in the jumperoo at 3.5 months. 6 months seems late to me. Neither one is cheap, you'll get more mileage out of the jumperoo.

I have both a jumperoo and an infant seat. LO loves them both but if you want just a seat I have the summer infant island giggles super seat. It has toys and can also be just a seat and turns in to a booster seat for at the table also.

We put BC in the bumbo on the dining room table while we eat. He LOVES his jumperoo and has for about 2 weeks now. we started him out there for short spans of time and now he will spend tons of time just bounding himself all over. He can't reach the floor yet so we have a box lid under his feet but he loves the independence of being vertical. It wouldn't hurt to see what your LO likes.

us too... actually just got the jumperoo and he loves it.

I love the Bumbo. I'm not 100% sure what a Jumparoo is but we had one of those door frame bouncy things and took it back to exchange for an exersaucer. He loves both the Bumbo and saucer. He doesn't sit in either one for very long but it's just something to get him off his back. I got the Bumbo at my shower but you can buy them at a lot of kids consignment stores for pretty inexpensive. I was also told this week that the snack tray is really good for when they start banging their hands and toys on things.

thanks ladies! it's nice to know other people have put their LOs into jumperoos before the "recommended" age. I think we might go with that and see how it goes. i was looking into the summer infant seats too and if the jumperoo doesn't work out, might try that!

We got our bumbo off craigslist for like $15. It's one of those baby items that doesn't usually get much use.

I don't really have any advice, but my little one hates tummy times and really doesn't lift his head up either! I really need to do it more. I only do it about twice a day for about a minute because he screams and is hard to console afterwards. I have just been letting him sit up on me and in front of my older son (he thinks Tommy can play with him while he reads him books ect. which is pretty cute!) while I hold him. He seems to have pretty alright head control so I was also thinking about the Bumbo we have.

LO has been in his jumper for awhile. We do a bunch of receiving blankets around him, though. He loves the thing. He screams at all the toys, and chatters to this weird frog toy thing. The best part is it is a poop machine! He struggles to poop all day, but 10 minutes in the jumper and all his work is done. It's dangerous though, we've pooped through a few onesies this way.

so we ended up getting a jumperoo and summer infant island giggles seat. We haven't tried the jumperoo yet, but we sat her in the seat this morning and she was having a blast.

I feel like DS2 is still way too young for a bumbo or jumperoo.. But he was born late May and he's a peanut! He still seems like a newborn to me. I'm excited for him to become more playful and interactive though

we get more and more smiles everyday but he hasn't reached for toys or anything yet

S is definitely a tiny peanut (she finally made it to 10 lbs on Tuesday) even though she's born pretty early in the month. She's just now starting to hold her head up doing tummy time, but half the time she still just face plants, lies there and cries. She doesn't really reach for toys very much yet either, but she wants to sit up so bad so we're happy to oblige. I'm not really sure how it is she wants to sit up but not lift her head during tummy time, but to each their own.

PP's bring up a good point about size and maturity of the baby. LO is a beast of a baby at 13 weeks and 17lb 5oz. I was pretty leery of starting him in the jumperoo early but he grabs toys easily and does well with staying straight up when jumping/sitting in it. I'm planning to ask at his 3m appointment but I am worried about them saying it's too soon. So that brings me to my question. If you thought your lo was enjoying it but your pedi said not yet, would you stop?

Never really thought about that I suppose. I think it would depend on why the pedi thought I should stop using the jumperoo. S is 16 weeks tomorrow and only 10 lbs but does pretty well sitting upright on her own. When we stuck her in the jumperoo today she couldn't really reach most of the toys since she's so tiny and sat so far down in the seat, but still seemed to have fun. We made sure to put a blanket behind her for extra support and she was only in it for about 10 minutes.

Jumperoos are not recommended due to potential injuries. If you decide to buy one, please at least google first. I am going to break out the bumbo and the exersaucer soon fit similar reasons.

Silly question... What is the difference between am exersaucer and a jumperoo? From the pics the concept seems the same? What am I missing?

In the jumperoo they have the ability to jump up and down due to attached springs. But on the exersaucer they only have the ability to spin side to side and stand.

I know you mean well, but I would hope that anyone who chooses to buy any "toy" for their child should know the risk for potential injury. From my perspective everything has some risk for potential injury. We got an exersaucer from craigslist, and after putting S in both the exersaucer and the jumperoo, the amount of movement she gets out of it so far is pretty much the same, so I don't think one is any better or safer than the other.

Ya bumbos were recalled because of their risk for injury.....turns out you can't put a mobile ten month old in a bumbo and then leave them unattended on a table. Who knew?

I'm thinking of pulling out the bumbo soon, so she can watch me make dinner etc. She's just starting to show the neck strength. I'll pull out the exersaucer before the jumperoo, as I think the jumping requires better neck strength.

I took the safety straps out of mine I couldn't even reach my hand in while W sitting in it to get to them anyway and they wouldn't do much good.

I have the one with no safety straps, I just don't leave her unattended on top of high surfaces. In fact I don't put her on high surfaces.

I got the Rainforest Jumparoo. I'm still putting it together, but I didn't see the need to spend the money on both items (Bumbo and Jumparoo)!so I went with that. Warnings are constantly put out on Google because some parent gets a bright idea to leave a child unattended in a Bumbo on a counter or jumping around at the top of the stairs.

I've never heard anything about jumperoos being dangerous, I'll have to check it out.

Hopefully it's not something as silly as the Bumbo recall. Also, I'm Canadian and walkers (not sure if that's the proper name?) were banned years ago because apparently us Canadians think it's ok to leave your child unattended in one next to a flight of stairs...
