Starting to tell family! Announcement stories :)

Told my parents yesterday and they were both so excited they cried! It was so nice to see them so happy because this was such a surprise for us. I am so glad to be able to talk to my mom about everything. She had some tips for morning sickness that I hadn't heard yet. Just had to share because today I am soooo happy. Feels good to be getting closer to letting this cat out of the bag! Anybody have any announcement stories/ideas?

Re: Starting to tell family! Announcement stories :)

  • We were going to wait until we see them next weekend. Initially we were going to wait until we saw a heartbeat but figure even if we miscarry we want them in on it. Congrats to you and them!

  • @angelaluisa We were going to wait also but came to the same conclusion. It will be so exciting to tell your parents next weekend! Are you just going to blurt it out or have something planned?
@kendramiroslaw thank you! The ones she told me that I didn't know were to not mix liquids and solids when eating, eating bananas also helped her when she couldn't eat anything else. Also crackers by the bed and eat when I wake up and then wait 20 mins to get out of bed. And to eat something on my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
  • Assuming the appointment goes well this week we'll tell them this weekend over FaceTime :)
  • I think I'll be telling my ILs this week, after my ultrasound.  Not looking forward to it.

  • I'm SO looking forward to presenting my three brothers with their uncle shirts haha is that cheesy?
  • I am so jealous. We are still waiting, but it's not like I wouldn't tell them if something unfortunate ended up happening anyway. I just wanted to use the US pic in our announcement. Ugh, to wait or not to wait.... First appt this week so I am praying they get us in for an us soon!!

  • We told my parents when we went out to eat with them a little over a week ago. Dad was very excited and mom cried (happy tears.) I'm glad that they know, because it has helped a lot with my anxiety.

If our ultra sound goes well on Thursday, we will tell the inlaws next weekend. I'm excited for them to know!

  • Btw, I'm in the backseat of an SUV with my father-in-law driving and he's about to make me yak.... He doesn't know yet so I'm trying to focus on no MS symptoms

    Super cheese...but totally do it
  • We are having my parents and in-laws, along with our siblings and my niece over for lunch next Sunday. I already told my Mom, but no one else knows. We are both very excited to tell everyone. We're doing the whole thing where you get everyone together for a picture and then instead of saying cheese, I'll say "I'm pregnant!"... All while my DH is filming.

The only people whose reactions I'm nervous about are my 10 year old niece and my SIL. My niece is currently the only grandchild and this will be a huge adjustment for her! I'm also a little nervous about my SIL. She and I aren't super close and she always tends to say the wrong thing. With my patience so thin these days due to hormones, it will be hard to bite my tongue if she says the wrong thing...

  • We are waiting until we get u/s pic at around 7 weeks. Our wedding happened very recently so I want to flash the due date and have the picture added to the end of our wedding video so it will be a big surprise to my parents when they watch!

Lol I had to tell my MIL that her driving was doing a number on my tummy today! Hoping she doesn't catch on bcuz I also ordered decaf coffee in front of her too!
  • I love all of your stories! We are waiting as long as possible. The ILs live in town, so I'm just avoiding them, and my family lives across the country. I'm calling my fam less and less so I won't spill- I want to wait another month since our last pregnancy ended in al loss just hours after telling my family at a big dinner at my mom's house when DH & I went to visit. Talk about a nightmare. Makes it hard for me to want to do something special, but maybe after the 12week appointment I will feel more ready. :)

  • We announced to my parents a few weeks ago with my son wearing a big brother shirt. My mom noticed as soon as we walked in and got really excited. My dad didn't get it right away until she flat out told him "read his shirt". They are thrilled, and my mom has already finished at least one new baby blanket. My FIL lives across the country & doesn't Skype so my husband called him to talk and asked if he was still planning to come visit for my son's birthday in April. When he said yes, DH said, "Good, you'll get to meet the baby then, too." At first his dad said "what baby?" and when he realized what we meant he was really excited, especially because he didn't get to come see my son until he was a lot older. My other in laws took forever to notice the shirt, and even after MIL read it out loud we had to explain what it meant.

  • I'm with pineconey and loving all the stories!
  • We got my son a big brother shirt. None of our family lives close (thanks Army) so we did face time. My sister noticed in like the first 2 mins and was like umm is that true?!? ( we are a family of goodwill lol so she thought it might be a hand me down). My parents, they were still saying hi to my son when my dad was like "umm read his shirt!!!" I was impressed on how quick he noticed. My MIL had an entire convo with my son. Finally after like 30 mins my husband pointed to the shirt and she said I know, I read it and then kept on talking to my son. Since we are 8 weeks, 2 ultrasounds and heard/saw heartbeat, we announced on Facebook with a pic of our son with his shirt and holding the ultrasound
  • Erinh2005- I think that is adorable! What a cool way to tell your parents! They are going to be so excited!

On the 21st my oldest son has a football game and my parents and my IL's are coming, we are going to have our boys wear shirts that say, "big brother" and see how long it takes everyone!

No idea!  Still trying to come up with how we're going to break it.  We're going to call and Skype with the in-laws that day too.

  • We told parents and sisters right away.  After a loss last time we were expecting them to be really excited.  Well, the sisters were, but our response from our parents was pretty underwhelming.  Like, "Oh, that's nice."   I actually kind of called my mom on it and I think I made her feel bad... I also told my boss right away (he was also aware of our loss) and he was completely over-the-moon excited.   So now I give my mom crap that my boss is more excited than she is.

  • I told my mom today after my U/S all she said was it better be a girl or I'm gonna kill him. Haha (I have two boys already) my mom is a Disney freak so she wants to buy princess stuff bad.

My sister's far away so i skyped with her and wrote her and her husband a poem on flash cards asking them to call themselves aunt and uncle. She had it figure out halfway through. Still cried though. My other sister didnt talk for 30 seconds-just one huge happy inhale that she didnt let go of forever!

My mom and grandma were the best though. Im the oldest of 12 cousins and my mom's the oldest of 6 girls, so this will be the first grand and great grand. I bought my mom a onesie that said, "Grandma's little peanut." She unwrapped it and just smiled blankly at me. I was like, "that's not the smile of a woman who just found out she's going to be a grandma." She told me later she was trying to figure out how it was going to fit on my dog...then she noticed the snaps. She got all trembly and weepy and couldn't speak above a whisper when she asked me, "are you pregnant?" When I nodded she just lost it. Laughing and crying and petting the onesie. My aunts are still giving her crap that they got it before she did. And funnily enough, they all seem happier for her than they are for us, which I totally get. According to her she's been waiting eight years for this. The first thing out of her mouth when we announced our engagement? "I'm going to be a grandma!" Sheesh. Then she spent the rest of the visit petting my hair or rubbing my back or massaging my feet. *sniff sniff* love my mom.

Grandma though...she's been (half) joking for awhile that she's just holding on for a great grandchild. She's 92 but still feisty so I (mostly) dont believe her. When we were leaving he hugged me super tight and said, "I'm happy for you!"
    "Thanks Grandma!"
Then she held me at arms length and said, "And I'm happy for me."
    "That's good Grandma. Me too."

    :)

If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, I will answer you:
I am here to live out loud!
  • We were going to the store & I had the window open b/c she had onions in a McDonald's bag= barf & she asked if I needed the window open & I told her, "yes..." & cue awkward "why!? It's too hot!!!" so I just asked her how she felt about being a grandma & she almost cried... :)
  • We found out about a week before my Mom came to visit from Dubai.  We picked her up from the airport and DS wore a shirt that said "I'm going to be a Big Brother - March 2014" (my orig due date was March 31st).  She was so jet lagged and exhausted after 30 hours of travel to get here, we had to say "Did you read his shirt Mom?" and when she did she starting jumping up and down and screaming in the airport and telling people "I'm having another grandchild!".  I wish we had video taped it

  • I'm wearing a white shirt with baby footprints stamped on it first to my niece & nephew's birthday party to tell my family and then camping that evening to tell my husband's family. I don't even have an official due date--but I'm so sick I wouldn't be able to hide it anyway.
  • We told our families 2 weeks ago. We got them all together for a big BBQ under the guise of celebrating my b-day, my day's b-day and my parents' upcoming move to South Carolina (which is a sore subject for me since we're in NY AND my only sibling is also moving to Texas next June). Anyway, when it was time for dessert I changed into a shirt that said "due in April" to wear as I carried out the birthday cake. We finished singing happy birthday and I stood there next to my dad like an idiot until finally my sister in law came running from the other side of our deck and just hugged me. Then finally the grandmas caught on and started blubbering. Everyone was very excited and yelling, I'm shocked my neighbors didn't come out of their houses to see what was up!

DD is opening a "big sister" tee present at her first birthday party. No body know except a few close girlfriends...after that both of our families will know.

I seriously get teary eyed and my heart starts racing every time I think about it....
