Vaccination article

Re: Vaccination article

  • @Rynleigh, thank you. All of a sudden the whole shingles/chicken pox thing makes sense to me. We vaxed DD1 for CP because I know people who had complications from CP when I was a child and figure even though she would likely be miserable for a few days and then just fine, if I can spare her the misery with a shot (and possible boosters throughout her life), then that sounds like a fair trade-off.

BFP1: DD1 born April 2011 at 34w1d via unplanned c/s due to HELLP, DVT 1 week PP
    BFP2: 3/18/12, blighted ovum, natural m/c @ 7w4d
BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w4d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence

I posted something similar to this today on a FB post.  Dr. Google is very evil.  Whatever you want to do with your kid is fine.  As kleigh said, I don't have control over that.  But you don't get to judge me for making a different decision.

PP, please know that I'm not referencing you at all with this statement, but I feel like so many people are not vaccinating their kids because it's what is trendy right now.  It's like breastfeeding is what is trendy right now, so there is a lot of pressure to do it until the kid is 15 or something (and if you want to do that, no judgment here).  I'm not saying there aren't valid medical theories behind these trends; I just wish people would do what they really thought they should do instead of jumping on whatever bandwagon seems to be passing them by.

P.S. Thank goodness I no longer live in Marin County.  I hated that place...this article gave me another good reminder why.  Marin County had some of the highest pertussis outbreaks in the state last year.  Hmmm...wonder why.

I'm not even going to get into the vax debate, but I just wanted to point out that breastfeeding is not just what's trendy now. It's actually how human mothers have fed their babies for thousands upon thousands of years. If anything, formula is what's trendy.

I was thinking the same thing. BF isn't some sort of trend. It's the human body's design to feed infants. Formula is a great alternative, but safe formula less than 100 years old versus breastfeeding, which is as old as humans. And it's not some new trend to choose BF. My mother and MIL both nursed their children in the 70s and 80s, as did all of my aunts (not sure about DHs). I've never met someone who chose formula (I know people, myself included, who had serious issues BFing at least one child and were thankful for formula when it didn't work).
