UO or judgments?

Let 'em rip. Mine: I just can't get that worked up about chemicals in J&J baby soap or non-organic foods. In the grand scheme of things, I can't imagine the few drops of soap are going to give my baby cancer. As long as I'm not raising them on a diet of McD's and a sedentary lifestyle, I feel like they will turn out ok. Great for those who want to do organic everything, but unless you live in a commune, you will be exposed to chemicals in the air, water, and genetically engineered seeds and animals (even if raised organically).

I agree with some of this.

I did switch LO from J&J soap,  but I can see where you're coming from as well in that we're always exposed to chemicals... I think it's a personal decision; for me it was "if I know about this one I am going to try and avoid it...."

I personally (and maybe this is a UO in itself) think people who do all organic take eating heatlhy way too far.... I will try and give LO some organic stuff, but I will NEVER give her an all organic diet. My SIL does this, at first I thought it was great, now I think she's taken it way too far. Her kids eat all organic, she only lets them have nitrate free hot dogs and cold cuts, and doesn't let them have juice..... Just milk and water.

Ya know what? they are kids - there needs to be a better balance. Everything in moderation.

I guess I take eating healthfully way too far. Organic is important to me and will be even more so when M is eating solids. Yes, food is inspected, but there are certain allowable amounts of chemicals, pesticides (produce) that I don't want to consume. If I can control what my family consumes, I will

Are you buying the produce and fruits from your local farmer's market? If not, you may still be having harmful chemicals in your stuff (Unless you buy Organic Pesticide Free). They are just not synthetic, but they still have a link to cancer... just like anything else now days.

    My UO for the day:

I think baby shoes are a total waste. I have at least 3 pairs for LO - all given to me as gifts. They are adorable but she's never worn them. What's the point? she doesn't need them, so all they are is an extra step in getting ready and an extra thing to keep track of!

I found they were awesome in winter to keep Norah's socks on, and now that I'm 'dressing' Nellie more I'm going out to buy some for the same reason

  • And yes, me, my neighbors and surrounding farmers grow all the produce that our house buys and eats. And the farmers are Amish (pesticide and chemical free)

This isn't an UO, necessarily, but perhaps a judgement? Complaint?

Either way - I can't believe the crap I get for being a working Mom. I'm the bread winner for our family and absolutely love my job. Just because I love my job, doesn't mean I love my family any less. I truly believe Charlie gets a lot out of daycare (and Ginny will once she's a bit more active) and that we'd all be bored out of our damn minds at home all the time.
I am the only mom in our family that works. It makes me feel weird at family gatherings. Sorry! I'm not as privileged as all of the other ladies in our family!

This should probably be my FFFC, but it fits with this discussion: I don't work and DD goes to daycare at least once a week. Not because I need a break, but for things mentioned by PPs such as socialization. I think it's important for her to learn to interact with people even at this young of an age. Plus she sleeps so well after!

Don't feel bad. DH was a SAHD all summer because he's a teacher and Charlie went to daycare twice a week. One day was "water day" and one day was "bike day." He had a BLAST!

I am taking 18 mos off work with DD and DS goes to daycare twice a week. He's a super timid kid and needs to be around other kids. Sure we have play dates with friends, but I can't do that as often or as easily as I'd like. Plus I figure DS got me all to himself for a full year, DD deserves some alone time with mommy too.

This is me too! I have 15 months off. Norah goes 2 days/week and its brilliant. Everybody benefits!

And, hot dogs are disgusting...no one should eat them
    And they are delicious.

Right on...yummy. We always get "good" hotdogs from the meat market that probably aren't so full of bad stuff. But I will FOR SURE eat one at a ball game or something.Moderation.

UO/Judgement...I totally judge when people don't at least try breastfeeding (if it isn't physically/mentally health related, of course). I know it's horrible...but I do.

I have done this too. One time that I did was when one of my co-workers said she was too lazy to breastfeed, which made no sense to me. But at the same time people need to do what they feel comfortable with and for some breastfeeding is just not for them.
  • My UO, which I actually hope isn't unpopular, is that I hate hate HATE it when women are judgmental about other women's breastfeeding choices -- I mean, who CARES if or why people choose to do or not do it!?  Why on earth does it even matter?  Some people just don't WANT to do it, and there is nothing wrong with that.

  • My other UO is that everything must be in black or white. If you do not do 'this' then you automatically do 'that' and 'that' is bad. Can you not cloth diaper during the days where you do not feel ran into the dirt? Can you only partially breastfeed and partially give formula? Can you only put on products when there are dry spots on your baby's skin?

I think whatever we choose for our children, as long as we aren't putting them in danger, is fine. Sure all of us want the best for them, you are doing what you think is right, but at the end of the day unless you are growing your own vegetables, have your own livestock, and live in a house built from tree trunks... there are chemicals around that get into your system. It is not giving up, it is facing reality here. Do whatever you can do minimize exposure, but do not hate on someone who chooses to do differently or focus their main concern on some things else. I am all for organic, there is a large garden here on this farm, my husband only cooks what he grows and kills.. I am not that integrated into that type of lifestyle, but will eat some deer every once in a while. I do use the garden and never have to buy almost any vegetable and soon I will try and grow fruit.. but the organic trend that is going around is frustrating because most of the stuff have chemicals on them that are just as harmful to us. They are able to label it organic because the pesticides they use are naturally occurring.. just way higher doses.

Nobody should be ashamed of what they think is right for their family, from food to how we will teach our children to sleep. We all make mistakes, if you aren't dumb, you will learn from them.

Nobody should give up on what they believe is right for them and their family. Just make sure (Like with anything you do) you look up the pros and cons of whatever you are doing. If you have, and it doesn't bother you.. you just keep on keeping on!

I artificial diaper and have put diaper cream on him, I formula feed, I put my son down to play by himself for several minutes at a time a majority of the time and I feel great about it because I believe he is getting the best of what I can give him right now in the situation we are in.
    Preach it girl!

Since this is my judgment that I posted...I know it's horrible. I know it's none of my business. I know it's their choice. I don't think I'm better than people who choose to formula feed. But I do have a hard time understanding why someone wouldn't at least try something that is proven to be the best nutrition for their child...flame away. If you try it and it is NOT for you, then awesome. And believe me...I think breastfeeding is one of the hardest things for some moms to do(we had every problem in the book).Especially working moms(myself included). And I don't like that I feel judgements creeping up when people don't even try. But I do. So I guess that makes it unpopular, and I'm just being honest.

and dont get me started on the "vault". Let's make movies, then lock them up so no one can buy them for years, and then when we release them again everyone will want it.   Nothing like admitting your taking advantage of your consumers by putting movies in the vault so you will make better profits when re-released.
they do this with diamonds too (and lots of other things I'm sure) Make an item seem rare, keep the millions of stones locked up, and sell at outrageous prices.
