Rolling

My Daughter just turned 4 months and I am getting concerned that she hasn't rolled yet. Shes doing great with sitting up and her neck muscles are great but she wont roll and the furthest she rolls is to her side, where she likes to sleep on. Should I be concerned?

I would say no. Our pedi didn't even ask about Rolling at the 4 month appointment. It is a milestone reached at different times for All babies.

My DS is almost 5 months and still doesn't roll over. He only will roll to his side. I work on it with him everyday. Don't think it's anything to worry about, they will get there when they are ready!

I dont think you should be concerned! my LO has not rolled over either. I'm not worried. Every baby is different.

Ds1 didn't roll until 5 months. You will make yourself crazy worrying about each milestone. I sure did! Ds1 was on the later end for everything!! I was a nut. But now at 3.5 he is already reading, is so smart and funny and I wish I could have relaxed when he was a baby.

I wouldn't worry. Paige will roll from back to tummy but not the other way around. One day she just did it, showed no interest before that day. So I wouldn't worry at all, just one day - POOF - itll happen!

No worries. LO just started rolling over two nights ago, only back to front. And it's only been in her bed in the middle of the night. I know of babies who have learned to sit up before they roll over. She'll do it in her own time!

For those of you that are worried about rolling (or for future milestones that your LO doesn't hit when you think they should), I have a story for you. It's about a little girl that started in my class when she was 7 months old and I was her teacher until she was 18 months old. This girl when she started hated tummy time, screamed and cried every time I put her on her tummy. She couldn't roll from her back to her tummy, but she could certainly roll from her tummy to her back and she would do it as quick as possible. We had monthly visits from a public health nurse who was concerned that she wasn't rolling from her back to her tummy. I was a little concerned, but I had faith that one day she would figure it out. Slowly she got more use to tummy time and then one day she just rolled.

Fast forward a few months, the girl is now 10 months old and not crawling, not really even scooting. I was working with her every day and getting really nowhere with it. Same public health nurse shows up for her monthly visit, is worried that the girl is not crawling and is trying to push for me or my co-teacher to talk to the mom about getting her daughter observed for developmental delays. Both of us kept pushing this conversation off. As it got closer to the girl's first birthday and knowing that she would have to be moving up to the next age group soon and still no crawling my co-teacher and I became more concerned, but still had faith she would figure it out. Sure enough the week before she turned 1 she started crawling.

A few months later when she was around 14 or 15 months old, I again was working with her on another developmental milestone. I was trying to help her stand on her own. I'm not joking about the following. One Friday I am working with her, and she is unable to stand on her own for even a few seconds, the following Monday her mom comes in and tells me that the girl is walking. I was in a bit of disbelief, but sure enough that little girl was not only standing on her own, but was taking steps.

Some children seemingly could care less about hitting a milestone by a certain time. Some children like this little girl will do things in their own time, with little to no lead up to being able to do a certain skill. If you truly feel in your gut that there could be something wrong with your child talk to their pediatrician about it, but it might also be worth talking to anyone else that watches your child before doing so. But just because a child should be rolling/crawling/walking/etc by such and such time and your LO isn't doesn't necessarily mean that there is something wrong. Give it time, and remember you know your LO best.

No rolling here yet. Either way.

DS rolled belly to back at 4ish months and didn't roll back to belly until AFTER he crawled (which was around 9 mos).

We are over 5 months and he won't roll back to front. He'll sit, and roll tummy to back... but only half-heatedly makes attempts to go back to front,

And my LO just rolled B2F, he can't get enough now and is constantly twisting from side to side trying to roll. He's done it a few times now.

DD just rolled back to tummy this weekend. However, she gets that way, HATES tummy time and can't get back. So the result is her flipping over, screaming, me flipping her back...only to repeat it all 30 seconds later.
