Heart Murmer!?!

I have had a heart Murmer since I was a baby with a hole in my heart that has been described as a "bump" since I was 12. I know upon pregnancy I have to begin seeing my cardiologist. Should I anticipate any extra precautions? Ex. No flying or something?

    I had nothing really that I was unable to do. It was more just keeping up to date with stuff like my heart rhythms and heart rates etc.

    It depends where and how big the "hole" is, or which valve is incompetent and to what degree. Seeing your cardiologist is a good idea prior to getting pregnant just to get the all clear.

    I second the recommendation to see your cardiologist BEFORE you TTC.  Are you followed continually by your cardiologist?  Is the hole an ASD/VSD?  Do you have valve problems?  Have you had any treatment?  I worked closely with my Cardiologist prior to TTC (ended up undergoing valve replacement) to make sure that my heart could deal with the added blood volume/stress.  I had a great pregnancy and all is well to TTC#2.  Additionally those with congenital heart defects have a 1:10 chance of having a child with a CHD (vs 1:100 with the general population).  You should discuss your options for dx and monitoring once you are pg.  We have chosen to have fetal echos for each pregnancy.  I want to know as soon as possible if we have a baby with a CHD.  Just food for thought.
