Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Pants either too short or too long

My LO is 17 months.  The 12-18 month size pants are too short and the 18-24 month size pants are too long.  For the too long pants, I'd have to cuff them but I am afraid the cuff will come out as he runs around.  Any suggestions?  Do I get toddler pants altered??  I have one pair of jeans that fit him perfectly. Oddly, these jeans are the same brand/size as the too long pants. My MIL suggested I bring those jeans and the long pants to the tailor and ask him to make the pants the same size as the jeans. Any thoughts?

Re: Pants either too short or too long

  • Kids grow so fast- tailoring sounds expensive?

Could you cuff them and safety pin or stitch them yourself? Something loose so you can cut them out and make them longer as LO grows?

  • You can also iron the cuffs in to stay put a little better. It doesn't really help on knits, but for denim and khakis it can help. Also, now that it is getting cooler, look for pants with elasticized cuffs like track pants and sweat pants.

  • DS will be rockin' his shorts for as long as possible for this very reason. Pants are such a pain. But, I've found that when wearing shoes, which DS does all day at daycare, cuffed pants usually stay cuffed.
