Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Munching/chewing

LO is 8.5 months and is slow to start solids. She doesn't like the purées but loves to try and get her hands on what we are eating. But even when we give her something like the puffs, she seems to mash everything up on the roof of her mouth and it stays there. Earlier she had a puff and 2 hours later I noticed the roof of her mouth was white and realized that it was part of the puff just squished up there and stuck. Is this just a natural progression of learning to eat? Or do we need to go back and work with more purées until she's coordinated her tongue and jaw movements?

  • I've thought the me thing and I've tried giving her milk from her bottle, but she won't take it. Maybe I should use a straw or something to put the liquid in her mouth. Hmmm...

Try just plain water from a straw cup. DD loves hers and she took to it right away, but I can guarantee if I tried to give her milk, she wouldn't want it.
