Hello ladies
First off, wanted to say this is my true birth story, but I am NOT suggesting anyone else will go through this, this is just what my body did. My water barely broke on Tuesday 1am. Went to the hosptial at 2am, and was admitted and on pitocin (since I had no contractions naturally) by 3am. I had a doula, whom I would not have surived without, and my DH with me. They were great, and got me to labor for 21 hours med-free. However, even with strong contractions every 3-4min, I only dilated to 3cm?!
At that point, I was mentally and physically exhausted and conceded to an epi (did not hurt at all). I felt better in the sense that I wasn't feeling the contractions every 3-4min and they really upped the pitocin. However, after another 5 hours, I was still only dilated 4cm. Very frustrating, but I stuck with it for another 9 hours, and by then I was dilated 9cm.
So after 36 hours of labor, and dilated 9cm, I pushed for about 1.25 hours to no avail. At this point with no food and drink, with no more energy and emotionally drained (I was also vomitting/dry heaving the last 3 hours of labor), the doc and I decided c-section was the way to go. By 4:37pm on Wednesday, Everett was delivered! Unfortunately, due to all the laboring, I was shaking so bad, I could not hold or breasfeed Everett. Thank good ness my doula put him up to my breast and after passing out for a few hours, I was able to hold him.
He really is the joy of our lives. He's strong and healthy, and breastfeeding is going well. He is latching correctly, but as someone with sensitive nipples, YES, it does hurt. However, it's getting better and I love having him feed despite the pain. IT's amazing how much he looks like his dad (tall, lanky, blond hair/blue eyes) and me (short, athletic, Chinese)!
Good luck to everyone else out there. Your brith is different than everyone else's, and even though mine did not go as planned (I had obviously wanted a med-free vaginal delivery), I delivered a healthy baby, and that's all that matters. See you on 0-3months, all of you are amazing. (Hope this PIP works..)
