Infertility

Ugh, weight gain. BLAH!

Yes, there are worse problems in the world. But, since I don't have any right now and I'm not really in the midst of a treatment cycle, I need complain about lesser problems! Since school starts back on Monday, I was going through my work clothes to see what needed updated/replaced. UGH! Stupid fertility meds! I'm soooo puffy in my gut from the IVF meds still. It was two months ago for goodness sakes! I'm sure it has nothing to do with my state of laziness after our failed cycle. Nope. So.gross. I will just DIE if my work peeps think I'm pregnant from my gut puff!

Okay, enough complaining for one morning! I hope you all have a great (non-puffy!) weekend!!

Re: Ugh, weight gain. BLAH!

  • I was JUST thinking since this cycle failed I can't use cycling as an excuse to sit on my butt. I guess I should exercise or something, on the plus side I bought some really cute stretchy pencil skirts I can teach in so at least I know they fit!

  • Omg I actually worked out yesterday and I told DH it never felt so good to sweat like that. Cycling makes me feel like such lazy crap. But I hope no one says anything to you about your weight that's plain rude. Unless its the 9 month waddle I never assume anyone is preggers and even that sometimes can be a fail lol
  • I feel ya girl! I have gained so much from IF...and have had two - yes two!! - people mistake my flub for a pregnancy belly. One was right after my lap when I was super bloated, but still! Ugh! Hang in there, it's only temporary!

  • Right there with you. Attempted to shop for fall clothes this morning... not a good scene in the dressing room! *Sigh*

It's twin girls!! Born on 11-2-14!

  • We are trying to work out more to get off my extra weight from the meds...I just have no motivation :( I hope no one is a jerk about it.
  • I knew I wasn't alone in the world of fluffy IF belly! It's so squishy :)

I think a workout/weight loss thread is a great idea! I'll post and ask to see how much interest there might be!

  • Reading this....wow can I relate!   In the past year, I have gained 21 pounds.....10 of which came since starting with the RE and doing 3 IUI's with meds.  I am really trying to watch what I eat and all, but going back to work and realizing there is NO WAY to suck in any of my gut.....well.....enough said.  Trying to be creative with the wardrobe too.  Starting back to work the 26th and hoping to push more water and get some walking in.  Hang in there.  You are right to set a goal and hope for the best.  Water and walking it is!  :)

  • Might be a dumb question but how does it make u gain weight? Does clomid do that too?

  • @Emmy916 I gained weight for a number of reasons. Yes, the medications themselves caused weight gain, but the numerous BFNs which led to stress binging, depression and lack of exercise definitely played into it too!

I never gained weight on clomid and I want to say I tried it at least 12 cycles over the years. The stronger injectable meds mess with my hormones and I retain water like it's my job when I take them. For me, there's not really anything to stop it while taking them. Plus, many women gain weight if hormones are out of balance (which happens when you're pumped full of stim meds). Compare it to PMS bloat and weight gain. But, when you go from medicated cycle to medicated cycle, 5 pounds becomes 10, which becomes 20, etc. Also, with IVF, most doctors recommend not doing anything strenuous after the transfer, so most exercise that I personally like to do, I can't. That doesn't help I'm sure!

  • I'm writing this as I sit here in a maternity dress (I am not pregnant!) that I bought because NONE of my clothes from before fit. I have gained about 15 pounds since 15 months ago and starting this whole madness. About 7-10 from fertility treatments, the rest going off of meds that made me lose weight (for migraines), and general hormone craziness. I think I'm also going to have to buy yet another round of new clothes for the fall since I only bought bigger summer clothes. Like another poster said, Lupron has been the worst for me. I stopped that a week ago and have already dropped 5 pounds, and I'm certainly not eating healthier or exercising more. Hang in there and remember, we will get our bodies back one day.

  • Oh, and for me too, the worst has been my swollen belly and looking pregnant when that is the last thing I am.

Having already been mistaken for being pregnant (twice!) by well-meaning friends and family due to bloat, this is one of my big fears. I think I'm just going to hit some maternity shops NOW that way they'll cover the IVF and hopefully pregnancy! lol
