It is time to take a look back at the week and see how we did.

@kountingsheep  Were you able to stick with your meal plan again?  How are the treadmill and yoga going?

@barefootandboots  Were you able to get in all four 30-minute runs, yoga, AND strength training?

@shandorfml2 Were you able to work in more veggies?  Have you started walking again?

@meladoristar  *cough*gym?*cough*  Did you make better food choices this week?

@chknma  Hopefully the birthday cake is all gone, and not a temptation anymore!

@carlsonbaby2014  I hope the red wine last week was yummy! Were you able to meet your salad and exercise goals?  How was the hike?

@SandSunBliss  (((HUGS))) How are you doing? How did it go talking to DH about changing things up?  If there is anything I can do from afar, or in the check in, to help you with your goals, please please let me know.

@Pink021  Were you able to get in your C25K runs and 250 minutes?  I forget, are you using MFP?  The app is so handy, I add my meals as I'm cooking or as I'm shoving my face :)

  • Good morning and Happy Saturday!  I did really good with workouts this week!  Went to SoldierFit 4x, ran twice, biked twice and swam once!  My eating was spot on until I had a Snicker's bar yesterday.  Blah!

Melad- eating healhy while sick is REALLY hard!  I don't think I've ever done it in my life.  Hope you are feeling better soon!

  • @meladoriestar  Please do not give up!  I hope you feel better very soon.  Way to go with the vitamins and cutting back alcohol!  Are you open with DH about your goals?  If he understands what you are trying to achieve and how you are feeling, maybe he will be a little less encouraging of staying on the couch?

  • @Kinipela7 Way to go, it sounds like you had a great week!!  But please do not beat yourself up over ONE Snickers bar!

Hi @anymax! I saw your awesome update yesterday-yay! How are you otherwise? We are good. DH has been verbally supportive of all of the changes... Our challenge is that he has proven in the fact unwilling to change his own ways, so I'm sure I will continue to be surrounded by temptations. I feel stronger this time though. With my ability to conceive on the line, I've never wanted to make these changes more than now.

I've done really well so far. I've worked out each day and avoided breads, sweets and starches. My fat intake is a bit higher than I would like and I can't really figure out how to change that. I know a big part of it is that I have been eating more whole eggs and nuts than usual. I know egg whites would decrease my fat content, but I also know that the fat in eggs is good fat...

My other challenge is that I will be going grocery shopping tomorrow. I need to get some things for breakfast and snacks. I'm kind of lost other than nuts and carrots sticks and hummus as far as snacks. Any ideas? I was thinking of trying to stick to mostly berries, eggs and turkey bacon or sausage for breakfast. I also like omelette with spinach and mushrooms so I could throw those into the mis as well... I'm trying to avoid my toast, fruit and crackers that have been my go-T&Ps for breakfast and snacks...

I hope you ladies have an awesome Saturday!

ETA: upon further research, I think my fat percentages are in line with most low carb high protein diets... Just not what I am used to. :/

  • Good morning ladies  :D

@kinipela7 - hot damn that's a lot of working out, go girl!  I'd say you earned that snickers fair and square :)

@meladoriestar - ugh, being sick is the worst!!  I'm so sorry and hope you feel better really soon!  I love it that you're owning this as an important goal of yours.

So this week was pretty good for me!  Definitely laid off the wine, except for last night, I decided to treat myself to some dry riesling with DH for our weekly movie, popcorn, apples and wine night.  So good.  Other than that, yep, stuck to a salad a day, increased my weights again for the back track at bodypump.  I'm going to hold steady with where I'm at for that now since I don't want to over-do it and hurt a muscle or anything.  Hike is scheduled for early Sunday morning with my H and two furbabies.  Thanks for checking in @anymax!

  • @meladoriestar- sucky that DH tempts you to sit on the couch.  My DH used to be the same way (he plays a lot of computer games), but he has made a goal for running and now he runs more than me!  It's been a lot easier because we motivate each other!

@carlsonbaby2014- great job with increasing the weights at BP!  Popcorn/apples/wine sounds like a great night to me!

  • Hello ladies! May I join you? I am in definitely in need of some accountability! Short version of my story- I used to be very active and pretty good about what I ate. Then I got pregnant and fatigue wore me down to the point I did very little in the way of exercise. After my loss I was just too sad to do anything, and just ate whatever I felt like (told myself it was ok bc I was grieving). Now I am at the point I want to get things back on track but just need a kick in the butt! I have been using MFP for about a year and a half but definitely was NOT entering what I was eating in July! Hopefully joining you guys will give me the kick I need!

  • I am at my wits end. I logged food every day for at least a week, ate under my calories and worked out and still the scale will not move. WTF? So of course I fell off the wagon yesterday and the day before. The damn burger I ate out at dinner last night probably had over a thousand calories. Pulling myself back on today but this is not right. Move scale damn it!

  • Thanks for checking in!

I hit the gym 3 times this week(1 bldy pump class and 2 treadmill classes) and stayed in my calorie limits.

I'll hit up my long run tomorrow. Only 2 more weeks til the Dumbo Double Dare!
  • Thanks for checking in! I did awful this week. No gym and no healthy food! To be fair, I've been sick this week and so busy with work projects that I just gave up. I'm still feeling pretty icky but as soon as I feel better, it's back on! DH makes it hard too because he loves sitting on the couch eating junk food and its so hard to get up when he's urging me to stay on the couch. Bah!

The good though- Ive been super consistent with my aspirin and vitamins. And lots less alcohol!

    Hope you are feeling better!

  • I like the Laughing Cow Wedges with a sliced Persian cucumber. Healthy and tasty!
  • @carlsonbaby2014- Great at increasing the weights at body pump. i increased mine this morning and am now regretting it. Especially after 5 hours of sorting slate tile and created a stacked slate border to the flower bed.

  • @sandsunbliss we both seem to have the same problem with our DHs. So glad we have this board to help keep me on track! How about yogurt as a breakfast or snack? Not sure if you are trying to limit sugar too much, but I love yogurt with granola or honey in it. Also oatmeal with just a tiny bit of real maple syrup. Also Costco has boxes of turkey bacon that are pretty low cal/low fat and they freeze really well. I always stock up on it. @carlsonbaby2014 - good job cutting back on the wine! That's a big challenge for me. I'm so used to a glass or two every night to help me sleep and I'm also trying to cut back. @kinipela7 lol so I just need to convince DH to get healthy with me. Well today he announced he's going to diet after my birthday (labor day weekend), so hopefully he follows through! @clh4444 aww I'm sorry you aren't seeing any change on the scale! Stupid scale! You'll get there though. Keep it up! And don't stress over one cheat burger. I always figure it's better to allow some guilty treats here or there otherwise you'll just burn yourself out and end up binging/giving up altogether.
Thanks, yeah, it is definitely something I enjoy, sometimes a little bit too much :)

We did 2 couch to 5K workouts so at least that was better than nothing.

I have been tracking my food with MFP, but I am not a big fan of it...if anyone has a suggestion for a better way/app? I was using an app called Calorie Counter by FatSecret on android and I love that app, but it was running into errors. It allowed me to have a widget on my home screen with my daily calorie totals which was helpful to see right there (it included a graph with how many calories were left for the day). It also allows you to scan bar codes of food to pull the nutrition info...so if anyone has any suggestions for something similar I'd love it :)

It does sound like we have similar DH issues @meladoriestar! Don't beat yourself up too bad. It's so hard to find motivation o eat healthy when sick. Thats's why most comfort foods are so unhealthy. And when you don't feel good, you have so much less energy for exercise.kudos on the vitamins and alcohol!

  • kinipela7 -yeah it's pretty much impossible to get around to healthy home cooked meals when you're sick. Delivery Chinese is so much easier! And wow! You did great with the exercise! That, plus good eating all week - you deserved that snickers bar! Don't be too hard on yourself about it.

@anymax -thanks! I'll get back on track soon. Yes DH knows my goals but I think he considers it just a whim of mine. I'm very slender so it's easy to dismiss my concerns I think. "Being healthy" is hard to conceptualize for him as being something other than "being skinny." But hey, in the end it's MY goal so I need to take responsibility no matter how much peer pressure I get lol.
So let's prove him wrong!   :D

  • @SandSunBliss I know the challenge of DH vs my goals all too well.  It is not easy.  For what it is worth, I try to portion out my snacks and put cut up veggies at the front of the fridge.  This way, they are just as easy and thoughtless as the snacks you are looking to avoid.

Is dairy a concern for you?  String cheese is an easy, yummy snack.  Also, have you tried Greek yogurt?  They are high protein, low fat, and I find them to be very filling.  I prefer the Chobani brand.

I cannot find the book I was looking for, so more to come once it is located, but here is the breakfast one that I like.  It is basically a baked omelet, but the nice thing is you can make a bunch ahead of time, and refrigerate/freeze them for later.  I switch up the type of cheese sometimes, but it is on the top, so it can just as easily be left off.  Let me know if this fits into what you are looking for...

    Sausage & Cheese Breakfast Cups
    140 calories, 9g fat, 3g sat fat, 12g protein, 4g carbs, 1g fiber, 195mg cholesterol, 400mg sodium

    Makes 6 cups

4oz turkey sausage or crumbled turkey bacon
    1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
    1/2 onion, choppped
    5 large eggs
    12 oz sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup shredded reduced-fat Cheddar cheese

Prehead oven to 350F. Coat 6-cup nonstick muffin pan with cooking spray or line with paper baking cups.
In a medium nonstick skillet, over medium-high heat, cook the sausage, pepper, and onion for 5 minutes or until the sausage is no longer pink.  Spoon the mixture into a bowl and cool.  Stir in the eggs and mushrooms.  Evenly divide the mixture among the prepared muffin cups.  Sprinkle with cheese.
Bake for 20 minutes, or until the egg is set.

  • @carlsonbaby2014  Way to go meeting your goals!!  I hope you guys have fun on your hike today!  No worries about the wine, that sounds like it was a great night with DH.  It is always great to unwind with a night like that.

  • @kountingsheep  WOOHOO!!! Way to go!   I am sorry to hear you have not been feeling well, but you are obviously doing something right, even if you are not able to get in all the exercising you were hoping for.

  • @taberbtb  Welcome! There's always room for one more!   We check in on Mondays with our plans, then review how we did for the week on Fridays.

  • @clh4444  I am so sorry you are not seeing results on the scale yet.  Please do not give up on yourself!!!  Sometimes watching the pounds is not the best indicator, especially if you are building muscle.  I would not be surprised if you are building up your muscles, because you mentioned increasing your weights at body pump.  Personally, I know I see my jeans fitting better, before I see anything dramatic happen on the scale.  Maybe try measuring yourself, like @kountingsheep is doing?  Please, please do not let this get you down!

@Pink021 Way to go with the two C25K runs!

I use MFP, so I don't have any other recs.agree, it would be nice to have a widget for the home screen. I just have the icon on mine. Not sure how familiar you are with it yet but there are several features I find very useful. (If you know all of this already, just disregard!)

When you go to the home screen of the app, it shows your remaining calories in bold. Then if you click daily summary, it gives you a break down of everything else, what you have consumed, what your goal is, and what you have remaining.

After you click to add a food to a certain meal time, look in the top right corner. There is a little button that you can click which will bring up the barcode scanner. There are very few foods it has not been able to find for me.

The feature that I benefit from greatly is that you can set reminders. I have it set to pop up a reminder at certain times of the day for each meal if I did not log them in.

Hopefully some of this can help you!

  • Ugh, I'm sorry I've been MIA this weekend. I didn't do well this week. For some reason I totally spaced that I had my D&C this past Friday so I gave myself a little bit of a pass on the working out and food. I was still able to do yoga once, run three times, and do strength training twice. I kept up well with eating except for Friday because, well, I didn't care, and Saturday because DH had a bbq work function. I'm super proud of all you ladies who stuck to your guns even with being sick and having temptations from your DHs or others! Welcome to the new ladies too! It really helps to keep me accountable so I hope it helps you all too!

You just worry about taking care of yourself right now! How are you feeling? (((hugs)))

Surgery is definitely a legit reason to slack. I'm super impressed with how much you did anyway! Take care though. Allow some slacking while you have a good reason! ETA: I hope you're recovering well!
This! Color me impressed. You did a lot, despite your procedure. ((Hugs)).

All AL always welcome in my threads!

  • Oh sheesh ladies, you make me blush! Thanks, working out just helps keep my mind off everything, and the procedure itself was more emotional then anything else. I ate one too many Klondike bars and a bunch of chips and dip, but that's ok! Thanks for your support!!!
