Zyrtec or Claritan?

My lo had itchy nose/eyes for the past 3 weeks. I took him to dr and they recommended Claritan or Zyrtec or Allegra... I tried Claritan non drowsy and worked a little, but today it got worse. So I tried Zyrtec ... Didn't realize it makes you tired a little... Just curious if it makes your lo tired or what works better... Ugh I heard Zyrtec is better, but not if it makes him tired. I gave him 1/2 teaspoon too Tia!!

Re: Zyrtec or Claritan?

  • My pedi says to give at night since it will cause tiny humans to get sleepy. I haven't tried children's claritin but I took the adult claritin for a while and then switched to zyrtec and it worked MUCH better.

  • I found Claritan did not help my DD`s allergies at all. I switched to Zyrtec and noticeda big difference. My doctor recommended splitting the dose so I gave half in the morning and half at night.

  • When you say split the dose am/pm, how much are you giving in am and pm? The Zyrtec says give 1/2 teaspoon but up to whole teaspoon per 24 hours... I tried 1/2 teaspoon only. How much are you giving when you split it up? Tia! I appreciate your suggestions!!
  • You will have to find out which one works for you LO.  I forget which one I tried first this spring with the tree pollen, but I had to switch since it didn't really work.

  • I gave 1/2 teaspoon in a day but split it. I used a syringe and gave half in the morning and half before bed.
