Vitamin D

Anyone have any techniques for getting the baby to take the drops? She did ok for awhile. Now she will just spit it out and I just keep wasting it trying to get her to take it.

I am EBF so it's important she takes them. But she does not like it. And I don't know how to get her to not spit it out

Re: Vitamin D

  • We use carlson's drops, ie: DROP, and add it to a BM bottle. He gets supplements about 3-4 days out if the week this way.

  • Put it way back in the back corner of her mouth, almost near her throat... or pump and give a bottle and add it to the bottle.

  • LO actually likes the taste now but before I would put half the dose in his mouth then lightly blow in his face and do it again until the doses were finished. He thought it was a game and would laugh after I blew in his face.

  • Definitely carlsons. Way easier! I mix it with his probiotics. We call it his cocktail. ☺

  • So after reading this post I called the pediatrician and asked if we were supposed to be on vitamin D drops. The nurse there called back and said yes. How many times have I been there since LO was born and nobody told me!?!?! WTH? So I will be buying LO his drops today or tomorrow.

I had to ask my pedi about it also, at his two month and he said that the AAP has gone back and forth on the issues of drops so many times. One year they recommend them, the next they don't.

Also if LO gets a few minutes of sun each day, especially during the summer, you don't necessarily need the drops. I live in the upper Midwest so our time outside declines rapidly when the days get shorter and it's cold so my pedi said we could wait until fall. That being said, I am giving the Carlson Vit D drops and got it from Amazon.
