Talk me off the ledge, pleaseeeee

Okay so I was driving and took a sip of my water bottle ( that my husband washed) and it tasted like soap still go figure, so I opened the window to spit it out and the seatbelt squeezed my lower stomach really tight, like it would if you were to slam on the breaks. Now I'm having mild cramping and it feels tight. I'm not bleeding and there is no fluid, but I'm still being a freak and need to be talked off the FTM crazy ledge. I also have an anterior placenta and still can't feel the baby, so can't use that as reassurance. I really don't want to call the doctor if I don't really need to as I've been having to bother him over 3 UTI's, allergic reactions to two different antibiotics etc... And he is a client of mine so I don't want to be that annoying patient. Thanks ladies in advance and I can handle if you think in being nuts :-)

Re: Talk me off the ledge, pleaseeeee

  • I would just lay down and drink some water. Everything is very likely fine though...if it makes you feel any better my toddler climbs on and runs into my belly all the time. If you still have cramping and are worried there is nothing wrong with calling your dr. That's what he's there for.

  • Honestly, it does not sound like you did anything and I probably would not call a doctor. Could you take it easy and drink water for the next hour or two. If your cramps worsen, do not stop, or is accompanied by bleeding-then I would call.

Just my two cents though. Do whatever will reassure you!

  • I do think it's probably nothing to worry about, I get feelings like that sometimes if I stretch the wrong way. However, that being said, if you're really worried about it, go ahead and call your doctor. :) I'm pretty sure he won't mind.

More than likely it's fine; my cousin's 2 year old son head-butted me in the stomach a month ago while horsing around, and it felt kind of tight and uncomfortable for a while - similar to what you're describing.  All ended up being fine.

Also, I can totally relate to the anterior placenta thing!!  I have one too and have yet to feel the baby move.  It actually has me kinda depressed and bummed lately, especially as I read all the posts on this forum from ladies who can feel their babies.  :-/

I know how you feel, I feel the same. Hopefully it happens for us soon :-)

  • Think of your LO as a little figure floating in a balloon filled with water.  A sudden mild tightness around that ballon might jostle the figure but it wouldn't hurt it.  Like the figure in the water filled balloon, your baby is in a water filled amniotic sack.  S/He is so safe and protected in there, so you are probably just fine.  Try not to worry yourself!   If you are still feeling cramping and/or they get worse, call your doc :)

  • I'm sure you are fine, but just as a side note, try to have your belt above your bump and not directly across your tummy for the future.

  • Hey ladies- just wanted to say thanks again for the support yesterday. I did end up going to the doctors this morning bc the cramping didn't go away after resting/ drinking water. The doctor told me to come in right away to make sure the placenta wasn't torn or the cervix wasn't open. Thankfully both were okay and baby looked good :-)

  • I had cramping the other day after my dog jumped on my stomach.  She's a total porker ha ha!  I had no bleeding or fluid.  I talked to my friend who is a nurse and she said that if I have mild cramping, it's probably just the baby moving around and stretching all pissed off that it got bumped ha ha.  That visual helped me laugh it off.
