1st Trimester

feeling miserable

I've been feeling queasy off and on since 4 weeks.  This past 1-2 weeks, it's gotten so much worse.  Nauseous all day, every day.  No vomiting, but non stop nausea that makes it hard to eat or drink anything.  I finally gave up and called the doc, who prescribed zofran 4mg.  I'm only taking half a zofran at a time, but the zofran makes me lightheaded and constipated (despite eating prunes!), and I got a random nosebleed last night.

Feeling so crappy is making me miserable.  I was so happy when I found out I was pregnant, and I am still happy, but feeling this terrible is taking a toll on my mood.

I just hope it goes away at the end of the first trimester...

Re: feeling miserable

  • Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time! When I was nauseous my mom told me to carry a lemon, scratch it, and smell it when I was nauseous. That worked. It also helped to not be hungry so I packed a lot of snacks. Are you eating enough veggies and fruits (other than prunes)? That will help with the constipation. I also think that stool softeners are OK while pregnant but I'd ask your doctor before trying.

  • No I'm definitely not eating enough fruits/veggies.  1 banana, 1 serving of prunes, and sometimes an apple.  I can't seem to stomach any veggies right now.

I'll try the lemon--nothing else has seemed to help. Vitamin B6, ginger tea, crystalized ginger, crackers, toast, sea bands, peppermint essential oils, ginger ale...nothing.

  • Make sure you drink lots of water too, that helps with constipation for me. Just drink it slowly. Big gulps will go straight to your bladder.

Just keep trying the foods that you crave. Think about different types of foods during the day and imagine eating them. If you can imagine it, go get it, or send someone to get it pronto!

I've found that oranges help settle my stomach, along with strawberries, turkey jerky (weird since I was vegetarian), saltines and dairy milk. Yogurt is high in B6, so that's another option.

I'm sorry you've been feeling crappy. I'm in week 6 and feel sick all day long as well. I know how miserable it is! Just hang in there, I'm hoping week 12 will bring some relief. And congratulations on the baby!!

  • Smelling the lemon helped settle my stomach a bit last night--thank you!

Oranges sound pretty appealing right now, so I'll have to pick some up. Majority of food sounds disgusting.  I imagine eating it, and gag.

Is your blood pressure normal?  If so, I agree with the previous posts, it sounds like you could be dehydrated.  I had the same thing happen to me a week ago.  I was told to drink at least 8 ounces of liquid every hour.  I have become less bloated, no more nausea unless I need to snack, and my skin has cleared up.  Celestial Seasonings makes a good tea called Lemon Zinger.
My bp is generally very good.  On a rare occasion, it has been a bit low.  Why?  I don't remember reading anything about bp and nausea (yet).

I have been trying to increase my fluid intake, but it has been very difficult.  I will try the Lemon Zinger tea.  Teas have been much easier to drink than water or gatorade.

I'm in the same boat. I feel nauseous all the time but no vomiting. And I tried everything you tried except sea-bands. Hard sour candy doesn't help either. So it feels like i'm wasting money. I have no problem eating foods that might sound good but after I eat it, it didn't taste like what I thought and then my sickness comes back in 5 mins after I ate. It's just bringing me down.:-<
  • So sorry to hear this! Last week I was 6 weeks and that was by far my worst week ever. I had the same symptoms, no throwing up, but all day feeling like I was going to. I have found that if I eat something every 2 hours I feel better. Even if the thought of food is complete disgusting, if I can get something in my belly it is better. I will say the day I roasted a chicken at my house was the worst though. I usually love roasted chicken. The smell made me so sick and of course the house smelt like it all night and it actually kept waking me up! Ugh! Good luck to you and I hope you get better soon!
  • I know how you feel .... it sucks!  I had been so sick all day that I had  to call out of work (which I never do) but I couldn't even stand up with out feeling like I was going to get sick.  I never did get sick just felt horrible all day.  Someone told me to eat a few crackers or some dry cheerios before I got out of bed in the morning and then make sure I ate something small every hour or so.  It could be coincidence but this has helped me get up and go to work and actually feel a little more like myself.

  • Lemon helps me!
  • Lemon drops have been my life saver! If I pop one of those, very shortly after I'm able to actually eat.

  • I had nausea all day everyday for awhile too.  I found the ginger gravol helped a lot.   Also watered down juice - regular juice was too much, but watering it down made it way better - and put a little something in my stomach.
