Pregnant after a Loss

Progesterone Supplements

I also posted this on TTCAL and I see there are a few posts on here, but I was wondering if I could get any more info...

I was wondering when your dr. prescribed supplements? During my first pg I only had HCG levels checked, never progesterone. Do they normally put you on these after a m/c? My dr. never mentioned anything about this so I was wondering if I should talk to her.

Re: Progesterone Supplements

  • Look one post below. :) I just started mine today - or will as of tonight. I asked my doc at my follow up and he said they won't hurt, but could help. I thought that was good enough for me. I didn't have my numbers monitored, but like I said, it won't hurt anything.

I say ask and see where she stands. It's worth a try. Good luck!

  • I was put on Prometrium supps 2x/day right after ovulation.  My last pg was a chemical pg so, yes, my dr wanted to be on the safe side right away.  Last week I spotted one morning and now I am on progesterone in oil injections once a day as well as Prometrium once a day.  I think it  did wonders for my bean because no more spotting and my temps shot up because of the injections.  Hopefully it stays toasty and safe in there!
  • Thanks, amlea81- I think we posted at the same time! Did they prescribe it and tell you to start when you got your BFP? Congratulations by the way!
  • In my all of my pregnancies my progesterone was very low so this time when it was super low again at 5 weeks she put me on prometrium.

  • Hehe was must have! My doc said he'd prescribe it with my next BFP so he sent in the script as soon as I called with my HPT results. It took a while to get them filled, but yes, most docs say start with your first positive test. Some women have trouble with chemical pregnancies and this is important for them. My loss was at 6.5 weeks so he just wanted the prog. on board in case my lining wasn't thick enough to support the developing baby. We'll see if it works! And thanks for the congrats. I hope you get yours soon!

  • Okay thanks for the info, I think I'll call as soon as I get a positive (hopefully very soont)!

Nice to see a few people from CT on here-seems like there are very few of us. I have a lot of friends that went to UCONN-I went college in RI.

  • I had two previous m/c's and my progesterone levels were never checked.. (actually with my first they were, but it was pointless).. I never had them checked during my second m/c at all and not afterward during the TTC process either. My RE and I assume my OB do not believe that low progesterone is a cause for m/c so they do not test it or supplement it.
