Waxing reaction.

Sooooo I went to get my regular wax(eyebrow) done today.  I have been getting my eyebrows waxed for goodness knows how long and never had a problem, except for a new lady removing damn near my whole eyebrow once.  Today I ended up having a horrible reaction( they said they did not change the wax brand) and now I look like a sunburnt Neanderthal. My first thought was, oh shit, now how am I going to groom my lady when I get my big baby belly?!  I called my doc, went in so he could see what happened and when I asked him about my lady he said no, no and no.  Not if this is the reaction I got.  So I get home and the ONE day my husband has off is the day this happens.  I walk in the door and he said "HOLY FUCK!  YOU LET PEOPLE SEE YOU LIKE THAT?!  You look like shit."  Now, I am swollen, in pain, cramping, sick and pissed.  To get to the real question here, what other options do I have for grooming?! HELP! :)

Re: Waxing reaction.

  • For eyebrows, try threading? Not sure if they can do it all, but it at least fixes the face problem.

  • I dunno- feel lucky it was just your eyebrows. I got a Brazilian last week, from the same place I always go, and had a horrible reaction. I guess pregnancy just makes your skin super sensitive. I don't really know what to do other than accept the fact I'm gonna be hairy for the next 7 months. :-(
  • Eeek this post is scaring the crap out of me. I need to get my eyebrows waxed I'm scared ill suffer a similar result. Who would have thought pregnancy would effect getting waxed :-/ Also, I despise threading... I don't know it just makes me physically ill thinking about getting my eyebrows threaded!

I've always just plucked my eyebrows. And of course, there's always the trusty ole razor.
I get really bad ingrown hairs if I shave. Also, at some point I don't think I'll be able to really see to shave anything. But I guess if I can't see it I'm not going to worry about it. My bf can just get over it for a few months, lol.
  • When it came to shaving at the end I just knda did it. It wasnt perfect but I was able to shave enough to be comfortable. I couldnt see and it probably wasnt the safest thing but I came out "unscathed"

  • I waxed my own eyebrows like I've been doing for years and they got all red and swollen- sensitive skin. Cheers to a hairy 9 months..!
  • Where I live, we use something called Sheera (spelling may vary).  I've always liked it better than wax anyway because it grips only onto the hair, not onto the skin.

I've also been threading my eyebrows for years. Cheaper and better than wax, in my experience.

  • Oh great. I've never had my eyebrows waxed but I volunteered to let my roommate do it when she has to do someone for a job interview at a fancy makeup place. Oh well I generally look terrible right now anyway.
  • If it reassures anyone, I didn't have any problems with eyebrow waxing during my last pregnancy . . . so you're not necessarily doomed to a reaction.

OP, unless it's going to drive you crazy, I'd say just skip the "grooming." No need to worry about something that only you, your husband, and a few doctors and nurses will see. :)

  • I just got back from waxing too. She said I might be more sensitive right now. I didn't react any differently. Not everyone's going to react poorly. Sorry you had a bad experience, OP. And really sorry your husband acted like that when you got home!

  • I've gotten a couple Brazilians since I've been pregnant and it's been more sensitive but nothing unbearable. I plan to continue getting them the whole pregnancy too.

When I went to the hospital to have DS, there were about 4 nurses and 2 doctors (why that many, idk) in my room at once when they were seeing how far along I was and one of them exclaimed "oh you're a natural redhead! I hope he gets your red hair!!" ... then they all had to look and comment on it :-S

And every person I tell that to asks "wow, so the carpet really does match the drapes for gingers??"... *sigh*

Oh! (Fellow redhead shakes head in sympathy and shock)

  • Thank you all for your help!  I will just have to see what I end up with at the finish line lol. I will def try threading for my eyebrows though :)
  • I will have to look into that.  I hope there is a Sally's close by lol.  Thank you :)

  • Question; Do your eyebrows have to be a little unruly to be threaded? I always tweeze mine, so would there be any benefit to threading for me?

Also thanks for all the scary stories im not going to be getting my lady bits waxed anytime in the near future. :-SS
  • I've gotten a Brazilian while pregnant and never had this issue. My eyebrows are a different story. I will be sticking to threading those. I would suggest just trying it (the Brazilian). I only suggest it because they should be using a completely different wax (hard wax) for that. I've noticed my issue is with the soft wax which is what they used for my eyebrows.
  • Aaah I've been do nervous about waxing my lady!! I currently shave but guess it will get harder to do do have been contemplating waxing. I get my eyebrows done with no reactions, but I am so scared of PAIN and reactions with my lady!!

Have you ever actually had threading done? It's no more painful than waxing and the results are great.

Yes I have had threading done and for me not only does it hurt worse than waxing I have also been cut twice! Once right before my wedding. My makeup artist was so pissed they cut right below my eyebrow. My husband gets his threaded and swears its better...I think it's different for everyone. Ill stick with waxing ;-D
  • I was thinking of getting my eyebrows done soon.... I did get a Brazilian a few weeks ago and it hurt.Badly. I won't be doing that again with this sensitive skin, but maybe just a bikini wax instead...

I have an appointment scheduled tomorrow. I'm hoping it's not too bad. My doctor told me to try it but stop if I have a bad reaction.
