2nd opinion now or at 12 month apt.

Everyone suggested I get a second opinion before taking Alexis to a pediatric eye doctor since my eye doctor had looked at her and didn't see a problem. We are changing her doctor and are debating on trying to get the second opinion now or when we have her 12 month apt. What do you think? TIA

  • She appears to be slightly cross-eyed.  My doctor looked and said that she seems fine and that she has wide a wide nose that can make it look like she is cross eyed.  When H talked to them when they called to tell us when her apt. is with the pediatric eye doctor, they could not explain why.

  • I completely agree with @RVACS811. If there is a problem, the sooner you get it looked at, the sooner you can get it resolved. And if there isn't a problem, you can stop worrying now instead of wondering for the next 2 months. You won't regret going just in case, but you might regret not going now. I hope that makes sense.

    Hugs!

  • It just seems ridiculous for us to take her again.

If its something you're stressed out about and your gut tells you that maybe you should go, then in no way shape or form is it ridiculous!! Could you do any harm by taking her? No. But you could be carrying extra stress or prolonging treatment by not taking her.

  • As someone who had 20 ultrasounds and hated every minute of it....it was worth it.  Had something been wrong and they could have caught it early - it would have made all the difference.  Had I not gone and we missed something - it would have been much worse than a wasted appointment.  I agree with the others (and I don't get the name thing :)).

  • We want a second opinion because we would have to drive 2-3 hours away to see a specialist and we would bith probably have to miss work. I already took her to see an eye doctor here in town and she did not see anything to be concerned with. She would have done more if she had seen something, but saw nothing. I know she is not specifically pediatric, but she can take care of them as young as 6 months.

They said the same thing about DS, wide bridge.  We are going to wait until his 12 month appt because it does appear to be a little better.  However, we are going to schedule the appt with the pediatric eye doctor regardless of what the doctor says.  DH and I both have bad eyes.

I would take her to be on the safe side, if there is a problem, they can fix it now with corrective glases

  • I would personally go now, not wait...I would want answers ASAP, rather than waiting another few months.

  • Have you ruled out pseudostrabismus? We took Mila to a pediatric ophthalmologist just to be told she had this. I wish I had googled it. There is an easy way to tell - the reflection in pictures is in the same place in both eyes.

  • @amelianickel that is what the eye doctor I took to her said, but didn't use the technical term.
