I don't believe in big ceremonies and receptions for second weddings, when the first wedding happened within the last 5 years.
We've received 2 invitations to weddings next month, both are under the age of 35 and both have been married before in the last 3 and 5 years respectively.
I'm not going to either wedding and I'm not sending a gift either.
I know, that makes me a b*tch, but I can't get past it!

Along these same lines, I don't think you should have a big wedding after you get married in a courthouse. A big party? Sure. But a full blown wedding w/ a shower? Um, no. You already got married. This just looks gift grabby.

Wouldn't you have to take a gift either way? Personally, I wouldn't want to waste my money on a big tararradiddle but then again I'm quite averse to big social functions anyway.
I think some people take the whole no tv/no technology thing to an extreme. It's not like I plan to let my kid watch 5 hours a tv a day or anything, but I don't think having the tv on in the background is bad, especially at this age. My friend is big on the whole "I try to keep the tv off all the time" and "we got rid of cable so now we only watch network tv for 1 hour a day." I think this is extreme. I like TV and I turned out just fine. I also was exposed to tons of music, theater, outdoor activities, and am a total book worm. Underexposing your kid to something like tv is going to cause more issue than just teaching them to appreciate it for what it is - a form of entertainment to be balanced with other forms of entertainment.
I totally agree with you! TV is fine, IMO. I actually feel that DD1 learned some things by watching sesame street and some other educational shows. DD1 watches tv often during the day while I'm nursing the baby. She watches shows and interacts with them- she's running around and jumping around pretending to be the characters on the show the whole time LOL. It's not going to win me mother of the year, but I can't expect her to build with blocks or color all day long while I'm nursing the baby! The family (us and the grandparents) collectively bought DD1 a kindle fire for her 5th birthday and she loves it. Lots of good educational stuff on there too. We did get rid of cable- but to save money, not because we are anti-tv. We have a ROKU now and netflix/hulu plus. We watch just as much tv as we did before. Edited for spelling

I don't really care for big social functions either. I think that if I were getting married a 2nd time in a short period of time, I'd probably just do it at the courthouse, or one of those destination weddings and skip the big party completely. If I were going to have a party, I'd probably make it a bbq at a metropark or something very casual like that and I'd probably say something like "your presence is present enough" or something along those lines on the invite.
I think using hashtags on social networking sites other than Twitter is pointless.
Then again, I don't really get the appeal of Twitter in the first place.
I still wear maternity clothes, especially pants, partly because my normal clothes don't fit but mostly because they're so comfortable. A lot of women say they can't wait to fit into their normal clothes again, but not me! I love pants with no buttons or zippers.

Oh my gosh- that drives me NUTS too.
It does the same thing on most social media sites now. Groups any kind of posts or pictures with the same #response.
My UO is I hate all the variations on martinis. Like a strawberrykiwitini is not a martini, it's a cocktail. When I go to a bar and ask for a martini and they ask me what flavour I wanna scream. I want vermouth and gin flavour with an olive. Sigh...rant over, now I'm gonna go make a chocolate-lychee-unicorn-fartini mmmm mmmmm.
I don't like showers for 2nd babies or 2nd weddings.
I have a friend who has 6 children under 11 and has had a shower for each one of them. I side-eyed the second invite- the 3rd,4th,5th,and 6th I flat out laughed. Yeah right!

Agreed. Maybe if she wants to have more of a welcome party and less of a shower I would be on board. I think it's fun to celebrate but people shouldn't be expected to bring a gift.

Wait, educational? Whoops. We set him infront of Criminal Minds and SVU. (Just kidding, I watch a lot of these shows while BFing but LO doesn't watch...often)
My UO is I hate gardening. My mom tried to get me to do it as a kid and I fought her constantly on it. When we first bought the house, I planted some flowers and crap but I now have no idea what is a weed and what's a flower so my "garden" isn't very pretty.
If I remember correctly, the fb group was formed right after the whole Erica-fake-baby-died scenario (maybe in March or so?) and if you wanted to join the group, you had to PM the person who set it up. I never did because I wasn't sure I was considered enough of a regular at the time (even though I've been posting here since October) and from what I can tell, the big group of "regs" no longer post here so I don't know that you would get a response if you tried to join now. I'm okay with just staying here. I like us. But it would be nice to hear from those who have jumped ship, so if you're lurking, come back every once in a while!

Yes, you had to send PM, then it would be determined if you were enough of a regular to be accepted.
I guess that brings me to another UO....I never had any interest in joining the FB group. I like it right here and always have.
I like the board now too. It's a bit more puppies and rainbows but not sickening like baby gaga or baby center.
As for TV I agree. He's a flucking baby. He doesn't know if I'm watching The Hangover or Sesame Street or soft core porn for that matter (don't worry, he's in bed before that comes on Skinimax anyway). But really, he sees pretty flashing lights right now. And loves it. So I use it to my advantage. When he's older, he will get to watch TV. PBS, cartoons? I loved that sh!t. And some of my favorite memories were watching Disney movies or shows with my brother. TV isn't evil. It's bad parenting that messes kids up, not TV. He won't sit in front of it all day. Well be out playing too.
Our TV is on most of the time. LO likes the blinky idiot box. So do we.
I've never been invited to a big 2nd wedding. I don't think I'd like it. 2nd, 3rd, 4th showers bug the crap out of me.
2010bride... $40 every other day?!?! Cereal it up, girl. That's crazy.
I like the board now too. It's a bit more puppies and rainbows but not sickening like baby gaga or baby center.
If I want snark, I just lurk on other boards.
Edit: quite fail. Sorry NJAZ.
I don't mind a little snark, it's entertaining. But during pregnancy there were SO many posts. I feel like we have more of a community now. There were so many more people before. And definitely an "in crowd." The board is very positive now, but I feel it's still real. Not a bunch of happy happy joy joy bs.
I was a reg here but stopped posting after B was born. I'm trying to post more now though.
This is what happened to me. For the first few weeks I stopped posting regularly.
I have been posting since the very beginning so I noticed when all of a sudden all the names I recognized left. I guess I just thought they would come back. I liked the tone of the board before, it's not so bad now either.

I agree with this! I had been posting since sept but read more than anything because my iPad wouldn't let me respond and it was the main thing I used. Once out on leave and having LO I've really enjoyed the board and getting to know everyone.

Oprah is overrated. I like her, but some people act as if her words are gospel.

Ack!!! This is a true UO as far as I'm concerned. Oprah is one of my idols!
Totally agree! I love love love Oprah....and Gayle. Although, I'm super jealous of her

I used to love Oprah, like in 2006 but after a while it's just too much especially because she has a radio network and a tv channel. And all her offspring, Dr. Phil, Dr.Oz, Nate Berkus...

Although I never really got the Oprah obsession, you can be damn sure I'll be glued to the tv for the Lindsey Lohan interview. Nothing I love more than a train wreck. I am also interested in seeing how she can speak through her gigantic rubber lips. Ahhhh my UO is I freaking love train wreck LILO.

What I kind of love even more is train wreck Amanda Bynes. Although, I'm more disappointed in her becoming a train wreck than in LiLo becoming one long ago.

I feel sorry for Amanda Bynes. It seems like it's truly mental illness. LILO, eh, seems half publicity stunt, half crazy.

My first UO!! I can't stand seeing mohawks on kids!! Or adults. Or motorcycle helmets!!
Yay!!
Nooooooo I love baby Mohawks!!!! Remember before Angelina started hoarding kids and she had little Maddox with his Mohawk....I loved that. I also love when kids have accidental Mohawks because their hair is growing weird.
Adults however should not have Mohawks....except Channing Tatum, he can do anything he wants.
I was a reg here but stopped posting after B was born. I'm trying to post more now though.
I miss some of the ladies that no longer post here. My pregnancy went downhill pretty fast when all that Erika stuff was going down and I had enough real drama in my life. I missed about 6 weeks of TB due to complications/early labor/adjustment to life with a newborn and I feel like so many people are gone! I do enjoy the group now though, too.
