Just curious as to where your pets sleep at night, dogs specifically. Our dog has a bed on all 3 floors of our house and rotates between them during the day depending on where the rest of the family is, he also has a crate. At night though he likes to exclusively sleep in our room. The issue is he is an extremely loud sleeper and it's really bothering DH who has new early morning work hours. He barks, kicks, scratches, growls all in his sleep. It's quite amusing actually, but it does get annoying after a while. I don't mind because I'm usually awake anyway with this insomnia, but he keeps waking DH up and he's concerned that it will keep the baby up as well. He suggested we kick him out of our room at night. He's got 3 other places he could go sleep.
Just wondering what the norm is for the rest of the pet owners out there. Does your dog sleep in your room? In your bed? The crate?
Re: Where do your pets sleep?
I'm so glad you asked this because my DH and I have been arguing over this same thing. We have two dogs and both sleep in their crates in our room. I would say most nights they are relatively quiet but some nights they will scratch or lick themselves or make other annoying noises and it drives DH crazy (and I admit it gets on my nerves at times, too). Of course DH is using the baby as the perfect excuse to move their crates in the living room because he doesn't want them to wake up LO but I just can't handle them not sleeping in the same room as us. Not to mention, why would we want two ugly crates sitting in our living room?? It's already cluttered enough as it is with the swing, bouncer, etc. Maybe I will be on his side once LO gets here but for now, I'm standing firm on keeping them in our room and hoping that LO won't be bothered by them.
Our dog Stella sleeps in bed with us but she's only about 17lbs, pug/min pin mix. I don't think I would have the heart to kick her out of bed and even if I did, my fiancé would bring her right back up (she's too short to get in our captain's bed on her own) and make sure she got tucked in under her blanket... yeah, she's spoiled. But she normally sleeps through the night, snores a little, but generally isn't wiggly or noisy once she is under her blanket so I don't think it's a problem. She sleeps near our feet unless it's storming and then we have to snuggle her between us.
I guarantee once LO is here, she will get up with us when we go to LO's room (right across the hall) and I would rather have her there with us than have her barking and freaking out from another room when she hears us up and about. Noises make her bark but she has never barked about babies/kids unless she was playing with them. I'm curious to see how she reacts when it is at our home though.
I guess the only thing I would worry about with putting your dog in another room would be if your dog is like mine and barks when they can't see what's going on but can hear it. For me, it would be more of a hassle to calm her down when she doesn't know what's going on than it would be for her to just be right there.

My dog has 2 beds -- one in the living room and one in our bedroom, and her crate. She sleeps on her bed in our room at night and only goes in her crate when we're gone from the house.
She never gets on any of the furniture, ever. That was something she learned from the get-go.
We have two small dogs- a dachshund/yorkie who is about 8 lbs. (2 years old) and a yorkie poo who is about 18 lbs. and is still a pup- he'll be a year old in November.
We used to let them sleep in our room- the puppy on the floor in a bed (with a potty pad next to him at first), the older little one in bed with us. We realized this was probably a bad idea with a LO on the way, so we transitioned them to their beds in the kitchen at night for now. I feel kind of bad about this, but they've adjusted well. Eventually, we'll let them sleep in our room again (likley on the floor) or have more of the run of part of the house, but for now, the puppy still occasionally has accidents inside (maybe like once a month or so) so I like to keep him on the tile.
I don't think it is too late to crate train your dog. The crate is a good place for them. It is their space, and if that is what you choose to do your dog will get use to it.
Our dog sleeps in our bed. Bad habit, I know. I have been pushing to get her to sleep in the family room or at least on the floor in her own bed but she's been sleeping with me for four years and its a tough habit to break. I am sure I will be regretting it when the baby comes in a few weeks.
We're moving to a new home next week and I keep telling DH that's the time to give her a new place to sleep but he is a big mush and thinks she'd be too upset in the new house already to also be sleeping downstairs without us. With a baby in the bassinet next to my bed tho I think its going to be a must!
The cat goes in the laundry room at night and also has her own bed in there. She used to sleep with us, but her habit of getting up and wanting me to get up at 3am got her moved out of our room a couple years ago. Her cat box, food, and water are all in there so it's like she has her own room.
