I have just learned that my job is being eliminated. I just took this job in January after being a SAHM. Meanwhile, I'm turning 38 next week, and we are TTC. I'll SAH again for a year after the next baby too. My boss is very sweet, going out of her way to send out my resume to her connections in my (our) field. I've also spoken to my own contacts. My problem is that I'm talking to all of these people to put their own reputation on the line to help me get a job in my field. Then, I'll have to tell my new boss that I'm pregnant (hopefully) in a couple of months.
I'm considering taking a lesser paying, non-career building, "job" just to get through the next year rather than using all of my contacts just to stay in my career field, and then disappointing them when I wind up pregnant shortly after I start in my new position. Sorry if this is confusing... Thoughts?
Re: Job or Career?
My vote is to get a job in your field, even if it's just for a year. Have you read the latest article about those who SAH and want to get back into their fields later. Your new employer in your field will be glad to have you and will be waiting for your return. We have to look out for ourselves.
I accepted a new job when I was 9 weeks pregnant (and SAH after delivery) and that employer and I are still on great terms. After being out for 3 years, by the grace of God I was able to get back into my field.
Yes, I will be a SAHM after having my next LO, for a period of approx 1-2 years.
However, there are no certainties you will be pregnant within a few months. You will need to consider this as well. Of course, GL TTC-I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy.
