Cry patterns?

This is going to sound like the dumbest FTM question ever, but how much is your baby crying?

My LO is 8 weeks and consistently cries (and I mean full out tantrums with kicking and clawing and screaming) for 5 minutes before all naps and bedtime. It comes out of nowhere with no warning, like from happy and smiling to wailing in 5 seconds. It's to the point now where I just hold her, sit in the rocking chair and read until she's over it because absolutely nothing soothes her. It's like she just has to get it out of her system, then she's very peaceful for about 5 minutes and drops off to sleep.

BTDT moms, is this a phase she'll grow out of? I hate to think of her crying herself to sleep like this for the next ?? months.

Re: Cry patterns?

  • Sounds like she is getting overtired. If I miss the sleepy cues this will happen to us. I often just watch the clock. I know about how long DD can be awake before getting tired. I try to get her to sleep before that mark to avoid a scream fest as this adds gas to her tummy and complicates her reflux more.
She only seems to be able to handle 45 minutes of awake time, an hour MAX, before melting down. I keep thinking that, at 8 weeks, she's going to want to be awake more, but nope, not as of yet!

  • My LO does this sometimes, too.  Her cry is so awful sounding that I keep thinking she's hurt or something!
  • My LO fights her sleep also and it sounds like what your LO is doing. My daughters ques are blank stare, yawning, eyes batting. Try and get LO to sleep before overtired
