Update: contractions

I posted the other day about possible contractions, well at the insistence of my mother who is a mother/baby nurse I came to the hospital to get them checked out. I am contracting every 5 mins just about they are mostly painless, but I have been given fluids and had blood and urine samples taken. They deemed that I am not dehydrated nor have a UTI and my blood pressure and temp look great so they are pretty perplexed as to why I'm contracting at this point. Prayers are appreciated, I'm just in the room waiting for the doctor and some new info.

Re: Update: contractions

  • I hope they slow down or they give you a reason why you are contracting.  Are you dialting at all?

  • Hoping the contractions slow down and stop. T and p headed your way!
  • Thanks! I was up all night, the contractions didn't stop so I had to get a shot which slowed them down, the on call doc sucks and was refusing to come in so I am waiting for my OB to come in to check my cervix and see if I have dilated at all.
  • Good Luck!!! Hopefully this all sorts itself out!!

  • Did they do a fetal fibronectin test as well? It tests to see if you are likely to go into labor in the next two weeks.

I was having contractions a little over a week ago and went to the labor and delivery. After monitoring me and the baby, checking my cervix, and getting a negative on the test, they let me go. They didn't really have a reason, most likely it is because I'm a STM and just feeling or having more contractions this time around.

    Good luck.

  • They did the fibronectin test and it came back negative thankfully and my cervix hasn't dilated. The contractions slowed down but never fully stopped so I was sent home and I have a follow up appointment with my OB tomorrow morning, and officially can't go back to work until she tells me so. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers! The on call doc ended up being the one who saw me in the morning and he was still a jerk, his exact words "sorry I didn't come in last night but I didn't really think it was necessary", how sweet right? Oh and to add to his sparkling personality when I called the first time at 7PM with around 5 contractions within an hour he told me that they don't worry until its 6 within an hour and to take a Benadryl and go to sleep. I want to TP him so bad.
  • Ugh, that is so frustrating! Glad everything is ok and sorry that Dr was such a douchebag.

  • Glad that they got it to slow down for you!!!  Sending T&P your way!

  • Glad all is well for now but keep us posted.
  • So I had my appointment with my OB this morning and she seems to think that I just over worked myself and that I need to rest so she told me to not go back to work until Monday to see if that helps, she didn't really seem concerned but I still am because what if nothing changes? It's good that I'm not dilating but I've been staying hydrated and resting for almost two days now and I still get them 6-10 times an hour and occasionally they hurt a little. It's just weird bc BH are supposed to calm down after drinking water and resting but mine don't, I hope the whole not working for 5 days thing helps but if not I'm calling her again just to be sure she thinks it's a good idea for me to go back since I stand all day at my job. Thanks again for all of the concern ladies and I'm wishing you guys a H&H rest of your pregnancy free from these types of scares!
  • I hope they calm down for you.

  • 6-10 times an hour sounds like an awful lot. They wouldn't release me from the hospital over the weekend until they slowed down to less than 4 an hour. Mine were and still are completely pain free too. A little uncomfortable but no pain. I was told if they start coming back more than 4 an hour and relaxing or drinking water doesn't help then I need to call back and go back to be monitored again.

If you still feel nervous could you maybe get a second opinion? Mine weren't caused by dehydration either. They said most likely just an easily irritated uterus but still need to keep an eye on it even if no dilation or other signs of preterm labor.
  • I'm happy to hear your OB doesn't seemed concerned, but I completely understand being nervous about the situation. I hope, at the very least, everything slows down and your 5 days off do the trick. Take it easy and have someone wait on you this weekend! :)

  • Sooo I had to go back to the hospital because even after water and resting and my previous hospital stay I was still having contractions every fees minutes. They gave me fluids again and two rounds of brethine to slow the contractions down and told me that I should call my doc on Monday because I will probably need to be on a daily medication to prevent the contractions because apparently I'm just someone who contracts a lot. I didn't know this could be fairly normal but at least I have answers and a plan now!
