No Nutmeg!?! UGH!

So I am having a dinner party tonight and I just made an Ina Garten mac and cheese recipe with nutmeg in it. Oddly enough there was a typo online and instead of the 1/2 tsp in the ingredients list, I added the one TBS it called for in the actual cooking directions. I am now reading pregnant women should avoid nutmeg!?! Anyone else know about this? I am trying to hide my pregnancy from my friends and if I am not eating my own dish I prepared they are going to wonder if I am trying to poison them lol.

Re: No Nutmeg!?! UGH!

  • You'll be fine, it might taste off because that's a whole lotta nutmeg for mac & cheese, but toxicity wise you're fine. Nutmeg is toxic in really large amounts (think swallowing several whole ones), but a sprinkling in a recipe is not going to harm you.

  • Thanks everyone! Sorry, you can soooo tell I have never done this before LOL!
  • I wouldn't worry about what it will do...but how it will taste!
  • I've never heard of that before, but I agree with everyone else. I love nutmeg but I am sure you'd have to consume a whole lot of it for it to cause any harm.
