When it rains, it pours.

Today I had my first pp ob appointment. Apparently, I split my episiotomy stitches. I have no clue when they split open or what I was doing and I'm kind of shocked that I still have stitches. I'm 6 weeks pp and I thought for sure the stitches would have dissolved by now, but apparently not. My OB was surprised as well, she said it is very rare that she sees stitches that have not dissolved this long after the procedure. Luckily, they were not split completely open and she didn't have to restitch them. I also talked to my OB about the burning pain that I get in my stomach after eating and she decided to do an ultrasound on my gallbladder. The ultrasound showed that I do have stones in my gallbladder and that is most likely why I am experiencing pain. I now get to meet with another doctor to talk about where to go from here. @Asbromle, I told you I'd let you know what she said since you are experiencing the same pain. I hope that yours has gone away and you don't have something going on with your gallbladder as well. I have my fingers crossed for you!

My day still isn't over yet, I am on my way to the dentist because I've had severe tooth aches for the last few days. I hate hate hate the dentist which is bad news bears for me. I feel like all I have gotten today is bad news.

Does anyone have any experience with gallstones? My OB said that most of the time you can choose to either have surgery to remove it or just control it by watching what you eat(no spicy or greasy foods), so I'm kind of trying to think of which one would be best. I'm thinking I don't want to have surgery if I don't have to and if I can just control it with diet then that would be a lot easier. What do you think based on your own experience?

  • I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago due to gallstone issues (I was beyond the point of surgery being just an option). The surgery was done laparoscopically so the recovery time was fairly quick. I don't notice a difference in what I can and can't eat or what disagrees with me since the surgery. If anything, I'm a bit more gassy than before.

Pretty much all of this for me too except for the gas. I don't have more gas.
This. Best thing ever. I had no choice. I can eat whatever I want, I notice no change. Except for no more excruciating pain. I thought the pain from my attacks was worse than labor.
  • Thank you so much, ladies, for all of the responses! I will definitely look into the surgery and keep you guys updated on what I decide to do.

My OB did say that pregnancy puts strain on your gallbladder and kidneys and that people tend to develop kidney stones and gallstones much easier during/after pregnancy so that makes sense for all of you that said yours got worse with your pregnancies. I hope everyone is doing better now! Again, thanks for all of the responses! I love that I have you ladies to go to for stuff like this. (:
