Vent

I REALLY need to vent right now.  We own a rental property, single family home, that has been empty for a year while we did repairs and upgrades.  My husband went over today and someone broke into it and stole all the copper piping in the basement and tried to get it out of the first and second floor bathrooms.  I am so upset!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I want to cry and hit someone/something at the same time.  HOW DARE THEY DO THIS!!!!!!   The kicker is that my husband is a police detective in the town.

Re: Vent

  • That sucks!! I'd be sooo pissed. Hopefully insurance can help you make repairs.

  • We were literally planning on putting it back on the rental market Sept 1.  I am figuring that is out the window as I don't think the insurance company will act and pay out that quickly.

Wow I'm so sorry this happened. Is there a way they can find fingerprints? Or is that just on tv?

They can do fingerprints, however I think that will be futile because we have had so many contractors in doing the work.

  • That is horrible!  I hope they figure out who did it and that insurance will help cover the repairs.
  • I'm so sorry! People suck.

I'm sorry! That is awful :(
  • This was one of our biggest fears while we were waiting to put ours on the market and it sat empty. I am so sorry. Scumballs like this don't know how much it affects the people who own these places. Will insurance cover anything?  Did it leave any water damage?

Ironically they were "nice" and turned the main water valve off.

  • That's awful. I'm so sorry. I have heard of this happening to others IRL. Even with houses on the market just for sale.

  • Oh my goodness I would be livid!  The worst is that you will probably won't find the crook. You can install cameras at the property so at least you can watch it online 24/7.  Logitec makes some great indoor/outdoor cameras that are not too expensive and very easy to install so long as you have a wireless network at the property, which is still 100x cheaper than getting your house vandalized.
