Bumbo?

Do you use a Bumbo or similar seat with your LO? Do you find it useful? I'm wondering if this is something we really need to get. Prince Lionheart sells one on Amazon for $37, which is not bad, and my LO loves to sit up. She'll sit in her bouncy chair and lift her head up as if she's trying to sit up. So I'm thinking it might be worthwhile. But the way she's been sitting up with assistance, I anticipate that she'll be sitting up on her own very soon. Just wondering if you find it useful and how do you use it to see if it's worth getting?

Re: Bumbo?

  • We use one occasionally that was given to us. For as much as we use it, I would say buying one would not have been worth it, for us anyway.

  • I don't have one and I don't even see when I would use it. A friend had one so we placed DS in it to try but it was a tight fit - chunky legs.

I see them being sold second hand for as low as $20. Not worth it to me
  • We use ours all the time. Our daughter loves it. We also use it for feeding time bc we didn't want to buy high chair yet and its super easy to clean.
  • I've read reviews that the Bumbo isn't for chunky babies, which mine is. But the one I'm looking at, the bebePOD, the reviews say it's a better fit for chunky babies, so if I were to get one, I think I'd go with that. I also like that it attaches to regular chairs. However, we already have a high chair... Thanks for the input!

  • Mine loves it. I put him in it while we eat dinner so he'll feel like he's apart and I can eat with both my hands. Also while I'm cooking. It's good for headshots (picture wise) too.

  • it will really depend on your baby. My LO does like to sit up, like in a high chair but the bumbo just didn't support her back enough and I think it made her reflux worse. After I bought it I think I put her in it daily for like 2 weeks, and haven't touched it in over a month, so for my daughter it definitely wasn't worth it.

  • I bought mine at a garage sale for $5.  We use it all the time.  She sits in to eat right now as we have not yet bought a high chair.  I anticipate we may not use it much once we get a high chair.

And others are right...I have a tiny baby and I have to work a little to get her little thighs in there.

  • My friend gave us ours and my DD sits in it occasionally.  I find with her chunky thighs, its hard to get her out of it sometimes.  Maybe someone you know has one, you could borrow to see if your LO likes it or not.
  • I found one at a garage sale for $8.  It was $45 new at BRU!  Crazy.  Anyway, I've only put DS in it a couple times.  He's OK for a minute or two, then he starts screaming.  I guess we'll have to keep trying!

  • I have used mine once. She has chunky legs and doesn't seem to like being in it anyway. Pretty sure I'll just sell it at a garage sell.
  • I use mine at least once a day, only 10 minutes at a time though. It's great if I'm making myself lunch or folding laundry - gives LO a different change of scenery from her swing, playmat or carrier. I don't know that I would buy one for more than $20-$25 though, we got it as a gift.

  • My  PT recommended putting the boppy in front of him to support him while he sits.  So it is almost like a little table in front of him.  Your baby would have to be able to sit unassisted or you would have to sit behind him.  Does this make sense?

  • I was given a secondhand one from a friend.  If not I would have definitely not forked over the dough for one.  That said, our daughter loves it and has no problem with her chunky thighs.  She was trying to sit up in her bouncy seat and carseat to see everything so I tried it.  She likes the different perspective.  I will put it on the counter so she can watch me make dinner or set it on the table while we are eating.
  • I mentioned getting one for DD to DH. A couple weeks ago we went to visit my step gparents who had to raise my step uncles step daughters daughter. Whew mouthful. And they asked if we had one and they gave it to us. DD loves it!!!!!!
  • We have one and never use it

  • We never used it. By the time he had enough back and head control, he was a strong roller and couldn't use it safely.

  • We use ours all the time.  DD is 15 1/2 pounds (chubby legs!) and we have no problem getting her in or out.  We just bought the little table for it last weekend.  She will sit in it on the counter and watch me do dishes, sit on the table with us during dinner, sit in the living room, etc.  She, too, likes the change of scenery.  She is getting to where she'd much rather be sitting up than laying down very much.  Since she is big on wiggling everywhere and rolling around all the time this is great to help keep her contained while trying to get stuff done.
  • My daughter loves it.  I started putting her in it on the kitchen counter with me while I cook.  If  there are some toys within arm's reach it's even better.  I think it makes her feel like she's part of the action - she's higher up and still safe because the bumbo doesn't topple over.  Also got it used for $10.  Definitely not worth buying new!
