If you could choose induction, would you?

  • Heck no, worst experience of my life!

  • No. I had an induction with DD. It was a pretty easy induction too. This time around I really want to go on my own. I want to be able to labor at home as long as possible before having to go to the hospital.

  • No way. I was induced with pitocin last time because my water broke without starting labor (I waited about 20 hours in hopes it would start on its own).

I am hoping not to have to make that choice this time.

  • I was induced with my first son and was only dilated to 1cm when it started. But I was two days past my due date. I didn't have any problems at all. I would do it again if I was already dilated
  • Medical procedures have risks. They are only appropriate when the risks of the procedure outweigh the risks of the alternative. Otherwise, you're electing unnecessary risks for yourself and your baby. That's really irresponsible.

  • Generally speaking and if all the cards were aligned to know baby was totally ready, blah blah blah, I would.

We live almost 2 hours from any family and while we have 1-2 contacts for initially when I go into labor until family can get here to take over with DD (our initial contacts however go out of town frequently for camping, work, etc. so aren't reliable, but they're all we have), my stress level would be so much less if it were all something that coudl be planned and scheduled for the sake of my DD. My hosp doesn't allow children in labor/delivery at any point and her delivery was so quick that we're planning that we may not have more than 2 hours once we know it's go time. DH is stressed that he may miss the delivery of this one because someone obviously needs to be with DD, too.

  • No. there are too many risks involved with inductions, even if you have previously had a successful one. And I just read an article that there might be a link between induction drugs and autism. Your body was designed to give birth...the majority of the time, it knows exactly what to do! Induction should only be used for medically necessary reasons. And even a supposedly "big baby" isn't really a great reason, because the majority of the time, the Dr. or ultrasound isn't accurate about baby's weight anyway.
  • I would not choose it.

  • Not sure if my 2nd was considered an induction or not. I was dilated to 4 and having mild ctx, they broke my water and baby came less than 4 hours later no meds. If it could be like that, I would droit again. If not dilated enough to break my water I wouldn't. I do not ever want pitocin or cervadil though.

I was induced last time, it almost killed me... Literally! I would never be induced again, my body wasn't ready to deliver and they forced it. I know some people have had great inductions I just wasn't one of them.

You CAN choose induction. It's your body and you can do whatever the hell you want to do.

    But me? Never.

  • My first was induced at 39 weeks, great experience.  With my 2nd, my water broke at 38 weeks, nothing happened, so I was induced 12 hours later.  Great experience.  I'll probably be induced again with this one, after 39 weeks unless water breaks again.  So, yes, I would, but my body seems to like Pitocin :)

  • My induction wasn't a good experience.  It could have been much worse.  But from what I've heard, going into labor naturally is much more pleasant and you don't end up with contractions back to back with no breaks in between like you do when your induced.  If you're planning to get an epidural then maybe induction is for you because it works better the more relaxed you are.  But my plan was to go as med-free as possible, and I did.  I got a morphine shot at 3am but thats it.  As I'm getting closer to the due date, induction is sounding somewhat appealing because I am so uncomfortable.  However, I wont consider it until after 40 weeks.  My 1st was born at 42 weeks.  If you chose to get induced again I would go the cervadil/cytotec route.  Not pitocin.

  • I'm confused on why anyone would choose this option unless it was medically necessary. I am on bed rest due to gestational hypertension and I am praying I don't have to be induced. I would rather have my body do what it needs to do and have this baby when she is ready.
  • I wouldn't. The synthetic hormone isn't ideal and can cause complications. I was 41 wks and got induced for 3 days... Mine and the baby's heart rate dropped, we had to have an emergency csection. I understand my situation was a little challenging, so I needed the pitocin, but if I had a choice, I wouldn't. Like every synthetic drug, there are risks, adverse reactions. Good luck.
  • I had to be induced with both of my boys and will have to be with this one also. My first induction was terrible but! That's because my doctor should have never been allowed to practice medicine and was a joke. I had pregnancy induced hypertension with him and often would be in the hospital with blood pressures higher than 160/120. My second was induced because of the same reason. But, my doctor was wonderful. That was a great experience. I got to get everything arranged including where my son would ho when I was in labor. It was nice having a definite deadline. With this baby, I miscarried before getting pregnant with her, I now have a thyrois deficiency (which I've never had until pregnant with her) and at my last ultrasound, het amniotic fluid is low. With all of that I need to be induced but I think the doctor has some to do with it. Also, your body has to respond well to synthetic medication. But, if mom and baby are healthy, I see no reason for induction unless they are past 42 weeks with no signs of labor.
  • No, I would not choose to induce my child.

  • No way! The more you bake the better :)
