Cloth Diapering

Location of diaper pail

Hi there cd ladies: do you keep your cd pail near your changing station or near your toilet? Also what kind of pail do you have? I would like to have a pail that opens by stepping on a lever but can also click closed. Can anyone recommend a particular pail?

Re: Location of diaper pail

  • Ours is next to the changing area.  DD's room is right next to the bathroom, so if we have to spray anything it's NBD to move the pail to the bathroom.

We have a Simplehuman slim can.  You can open it with your foot, and it has a lid that can be locked.

  • Locking Simplehuman step can next to the changing table, lined with a Kissaluvs pail liner.

Hanging wet bag in the bathroom where I take care of the poopy diapers.
  • We have a metal kitchen trash can with a drop lid and plastic insert. We use a PUL liner with an elastic opening. I don't remember what brand. Thought we'll wipe out covers when just pee sometimes, usually we wash poop ones, so that prevents drippage. But rinsing poop off doesn't usually soak the diaper (depending on how you hold it, I guess)--at least using a sprayer--so we haven't really had drippage problems getting the diaper to the pail which is next to the changing table.

  • LO isn't here yet so I don't know if this will end up working out.
Right now I have a step trash can with a pail liner in our laundry room (attached to the main bathroom). Our PnP has a changer attachment to I have a hanging zippered wetbag attached to it.
I plan on using the wetbag for MOTN changes and then emptying the diapers into the pail in the morning. Plan is to wash EOD so I'll wash the wetbag at the same time.
Any diaper changes that go on during the day will probably be in the living room, so I'll just walk over and toss them directly in the pail.

Currently I have 2 Planetwise pail liners, 1 Planetwise hanging wet/dry bag, 1 med Planetwise wetbag, 1 med Kissaluvs hanging wetbag

I keep my pail in the bathroom. I don't have a changing station. I just change baby/toddler where I am (couch, bed, or floor). I rinse all diapers right away, even the urine ones. So it is handy to have it in the bathroom.

The pail I have is a Tidy Cat kitty litter pail with a top. Yep. High tech there! It was free (since I use the kitty litter) and easy to use. I can use my foot to flip up the top if I kick the lift part. Well, as long as I am not to pregnant. lol Right now I can't at 32 weeks. It seals shut pretty well.

  • I have a hanging wet bag in the baby's room hanging off the change table. The change table is in the closet though, so I just close the door if she's playing on the floor so she can't get to it. The bathroom is right across the hall, and we mostly use pockets, so the outer part prevents dripping. When she was sleeping in our bedroom we also kept a wet/dry bag in there along with a basket of night diapers and extra pjs, etc. Many people get smell issues with a sealed pail, so I think the click shut part isn't necessarily a good idea.

  • We only use wet bags, but we keep it in the bathroom. Our washing machine is in there too, so it just makes sense for us. Plus we don't use a changing table, and don't plan on using one with DS2 either.
