I think its inevitable that they will leave marks but all of our vehicles have leather seats and once the seat was removed for a week or two it seemed to retain its original shape.
ETA: Just make sure to use a leather conditioner to make sure the seats dont crack in general and you should be good.
Whoops! That posted early. I have seen the seat protectors that are sold in baby stores but I am concerned the plastic like protectors are going to leave marks of their own in the leather.

There is nothing you can really do to prevent this. Those car seat protectors are not safe and will void your warranty. We have leather in both cars and unfortunately have dents from the car seats. They aren't really messed up though, the dents kind of smooth out after a couple of days of not having the car seat on them.
Are you talking about dents or scuffing the paint off? We have had DDs carseat in and out of our car with leather several times and have never had issues. The dents heal pretty quickly and are from the under layers not the actual leather stretching. At least this is so in our case.

We bought seat protector mats by Brica. My friend used them in her car and didn't get marks. I am hopeful for the same!! Plus helps guard against many spills with her kids! And crumbs!

Ours haven't ruined our seats.
However, according to the highway patril (who checked our installation), seat protectors aren't recommended because they can supposedly cause the seat not to function properly and if something goes wrong many seat manufacturers will not be found liable because of the seat protector.
That said, the highway patrol also said they don't think it actually poses any risk and they didn't recommend removing them. Just made sure we were aware of the liability issue.
We have a towel under our seat. Not doubled up or anything, no extra thickness. I attached some ribbon to it so I can tie it around the headrest of the seat, so it protects the back of the seat from muddy shoes, food, or anything else DS manages to get all over. And I think it's helping with the dents, because when we take the seat out, the car looks fine.
We were told when we got the seat inspected that the single layer of towel was just fine, and didn't pose a safety hazard or void any warrantees. I'm not entirely positive that's true, it's just what we were told.

I'm sure someone else said it, but I didn't read the other posts...
You can not use these. They void the warranty of your seat and are not safe.
FI has leather seats and when we've taken the car seat out of his car I've never noticed any damage. I really wouldn't care though because there's going to be carseats in his car for a loooong time. He'll probably need a new car by the time we don't need car seats anyway, so no one will ever see any damage. I guess I would only be concerned about it if you had a lease or plan on selling/trading in you car soon.

This is definitely not true.

hmmmmmm looks like I need to do some research ..... So many mixed answers ...
Definitely take the time to do that research. Any reputable car seat safety website will tell you that seat protectors can inhibit the ability of the car seat to do it's job in the event of an accident. Car seats are meant to be installed without ANY additional accessories.
Nope. But I think that eventually the indentation will come out. That being said, you are going to have a seat in your car for a loooonng time so I wouldn't worry about it now :-D
