My RE recommends me to have an IV cocktail the day of the transfer. This is due to recurrent miscarriage. It is not covered under any insurance plans. I understand why he recommends it but I also feel as though he is padding his pockets. I believe it is called, Intralipids. WWYD? OOP cost is $180.
I cannot speak to your specific question but I did want to say that if you feel as though your RE is recommending things in order to 'pad his pockets' then I would find another RE. This person is in a position that you need to trust and if you don't trust them, they are not the right match for you. IMHO.
me:33 my wife:32 married in June '12 LONG road through IF ending in heartbreak and frustration.
Did you ask your RE why he is recommending this treatment? (Besides rpl). Have you done any research into it? If you don't feel comfortable with the treatment or you think he's just padding his pockets opt out of the treatment.

There are a lot of studies surrounding intralipids helping rpl. Our RE is having me tested for NK cells before using intralipids. Some RE's just do intralipids, hoping it helps with implantation. My understanding (and maybe someone else knows more) is that if you have active NK cells and intralipids help, you need to have infusions every 3-4 weeks through the first tri and sometimes a little longer. Your RE isn't completely crazy for suggesting it. There are more and more RE's seeing the research behind it. Some RE's happen to think it's not necessary and some are a little more open to the idea. However, for intralipids to work, you need the infusion one week before ET. (At least that's what my RE suggests if my blood work comes back + for NK cells)

**siggy warning** Intralipids are used for elevated nk cells (everyone has nk cells, its the level of them that should be concerning). I use ivig for elevated nk cells and elevated cytokines. We attempted to control my level w prednisone first. When that didn't reduce it enough, I had an infusion the day before et. My ri suggests the infusion w in a week of et. Then about a week after the infusion they checked my levels again. They are still elevated but not as much so we increased my prednisone dose to buy me time till another infusion. I will get infusions every 4 weeks throughout my pregnancy depending on what my labs say.
If you haven't been tested, I'd suggest asking for that. Fwiw, this was the first cycle we did an infusion and it was our first bfp. I'm under the care of Dr Kwak Kim in addition to my re. If you can see a reproductive immunologist, I'd recommend it.

Is that really pronounced "Doctor Quack"? I thought the urologist being named Dr. Seamen was funny. (I'm still on drugs and a bit loopy)
