C-section ladies, are you having another c-section or vbac?

I'm 28 weeks and still up in the air. A group I am in, a member posted she was just released from the hospital after a 2 week stay after having a massive hemorage from her vbac. I have to say, this scared me. DH is very scared for me to try a vbac. So, what have you ladies decided to do?

Re: C-section ladies, are you having another c-section or vbac?

  • I, personally, am trying for a VBAC. I think. Ha. I go back and forth but today - it's VBAC.

  • VBAC, in my opinion there are risks on both sides, but if you're a good candidate for a VBAC, it's better for baby

  • I'm trying for a VBAC. Good luck to us all!!

  • I wanted to do a vbac, my ob said we'll do an ultrasound next month to compare baby's measurements to what my son was and go from there. She also said my best bet would be to go into labor on my own and if she has to induce she suggests another c-section. I go back and forth because of the risks also. I wouldn't mind another c-section because I recovered so well after my son but that was 4 years ago and who knows, each one is different. Good luck to all of you!

This is me. Last week I was set on a RCS. THen I had my next OB appt yesterday and she was super supportive with a VBAC and helped me have a plan for a VBAC and now I'm back to the "I'm going to for a VBAC" mindset. Basically I am scheduling a RCS 2 days before my due date. If I don't go in to active labor by that time, I'll have the RCS. If I go into labor on my own and it's active labor to where I'm laboring great, we will try for the VBAC. One of my doctors told me in the 20 years he's been practicing, he's only had 2 cases of a hemmoraged VBAC and both mother and baby were okay. There are risks on both sides so that's why this is such a mind game :(

  • I'm trying for a VBAC. There are always risks with child birth. I hope your friend is doing okay.

  • Currently we are planning a VBAC, but that all depends on me actually going into labor on time(women in my family like to carry boys late, my grandma went 50 weeks in the time before inductions). So I am not sure if it'll happen, we have our RCS scheduled for Oct. 30th.
  • RCS. :-( Even I know when to give up on pushing for a VBAC. The closest I ever got was being offered a home birth only. Except I hemorrhaged the Csection before and I was to afraid to do that without being in a hospital or birth center.

  • I am having a third c/s. DD1 was breech. DD2 I was a good candidate for a vbac but my scheduled c/s went so well and I felt more comfortable knowing what to expect so I opted for a c/s. This time they didn't even ask if I had a preference.

  • I got the approval for VBAC yesterday from both my regular OB and the maternal-fetal specialist. SO definitely trying VBAC

  • Definitely a RCS for me. My first one was planned, and a VBAC is not even an option for me. I have too much scar tissue from Crohn's surgeries to even attempt a vaginal birth. But I don't know any different, so a RCS is fine with me!

If I go into labor on my own before my scheduled RCS date, I'm going to do a trial of labor and see what happens. Otherwise, it's csection for me.

This is what we have planned too.

  • Vbac, dd was breech so i was never allowed to go into labor. Now with my hbp and gd i am having a consult with one of the ob surgens in two weeks to talk about what things may come up that change my vbac course

  • I'm doing a vbac. Doc says I'm a good candidate so we will see. I had to change doctors just to get it, so I think it would be silly to do a csection at this point if I can do a vbac. I'm scared though, I've never been in labor so i don't know what to expect.
  • I'm having a RCS. I had a really positive experience with my first CS, I don't feel the need to explore the unknown.

I scheduled my RCS for 41w5d so I could have a good chance of going in to labor before then.

However, I have a very good chance this one will be breech as well, so if she is around 37-38 weeks I'll probably move the date up to 39w exactly.

ETA: My OB practice is willing to be very flexible with moving dates around, I know some people are not so lucky.

  • Another c-section. The thought of a VBAC never even crossed my mind. Had a great experience the first time around and I'm hoping for the same with this one as well.

  • I am really, really hoping to VBAC...I did go into active labor with DS but he was transverse...he was also huge, 9lb12oz so now I am getting the "big baby" RCS talk. A few dr in the practice are supportive, a few not so much... I think it may be a see if I go into labor before RCS date case...

I am going to a new group Wed. For a second opinion, so I am anxious as to what they will say....

  • Not a good candidate for VBAC, so RCS for me!

  • I'm going for a repeat c section. They suggested it with my second, claiming they didn't have enough staff to cover me and my doc just didn't feel comfortable with it. I chose the same this time around. I have horrible scar tissue from the past two c sections and I'm terrified something will happen. Along with genetic birthing issues passed down from my mom I just feel more comfortable having the c section. I would live to try for a v bac but it's just not in the cards for me. Every one is different, though, so good luck in whatever you choose!
  • RCS for me. I never considered a vbac because my last section went so well.

  • I am going for a repeat csection.... My OB does not do vbacs - which was ok with me! Good luck!
  • I'm trying for a vbac.  We'll schedule a RCS for about 41 weeks but I'm hoping to go into labor before then and have a vbac.  I'm a good candidate and my doctor is super supportive.

  • RCS for me, as my doctor said my hospital wont allow VBAC for liability reasons.  I would honestly take the csection recovery from my second child over my vaginal birth/recovery from my first child any day.

  • I'm not a candidate for VBAC so my repeat c/s is scheduled for Sept 30th at 39 weeks. If I go into labor on my own before then I'll still be having a c/s.

I can't believe no one caught this! This is a typo, yes? Your grandmother did NOT go 50 weeks. 2 and a half months late? She was pregnant for 2 weeks shy of an entire year?!? No. She miscalculated.
