Bumpers

At every Pedi's appointment we are asked if we are using a bumper. I say no since this is what is recommended. We have been finding lately that our DD gets stuck in the bars and will scream bloody murder. I broke down last night and put it on after two wakes up. Did anyone else have this issue?

Re: Bumpers

  • DD doesn't get stuck, but I have been considering using breathable bumpers because she drops her pacifier behind the crib every. single. time. Then we have to move the crib out away from the wall and pick it up. I think we might be getting the mesh ones soon.

We've been having this problem lately, too.  We already have a mesh bumper, right now I'm on the fence about whether to put it up or just buy more pacifiers!

  • I use bumpers. She used to get stuck now she doesn't..

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers

  • I've been against them, but DD keeps scooting herself around in her crib and sometimes ends up pushing the top of her head into the bars. :/
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • We got breathable bumpers because Nicky kept getting limbs stuck and then screaming.  Problem solved :)

This! She doesn't do it at night but during the day if she's in her crib while I shower or lying down for a nap she ALWAYS drops it. I'm getting tired of pulling the crib away from the wall because I've already made a scuff mark on the moulding once. I think I might suck it up and buy the breathable bumpers.  Is there an age when regular bumpers are okay?
  • We use the breathable bumpers as well - they are a lifesaver!

  • Another vote for the breathable bumpers!

  • I have been using a regular padded (gasp!) bumper on my lo's crib since he was 3 months old. He wears leg braces though so I had to protect him and the bed. The one time I took the bumper off to wash it over night he got his bar caught in between the bars and freaked out. He never puts his face close to it and if he did he's strong enough to move himself.
  • I would only use breathable ones. And right now use none. There are a few moms in my loss group that lost babies to SIDS so it is very real to me....one was 6 months....so I take the sleep recommendations seriously.

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

It is not just about them being able to move or not. It is also about decreased air flow and increased co2 build up.

  • Our problem wasn't getting her leg stuck. Instead, DD is so mobile now that she hits her head more than I would like. As a result, the breathable bumpers wouldn't work for our purposes. We got the individual felt sleeves that goes around each spindle on the crib.
  • The breathable bumpers are padded as well, so they would Haley with the head bumping. We use the breathable because LO wiggles backwards and gets her thighs between the slats and gets upset when she can't get out.
