Doula second time around?

I had a wonderful doula with my first, who was absolutely instrumental in making our home water birth such a positive experience. I had a great connection with her, which is amazing in itself because it usually takes me a long time to feel comfortable with someone new. If she was still around, I would totally ask her to be my doula again - but she's moved away. 

We're planning a home water birth with this babe as well. I have the same midwives as last time and now that DH and I have been through the experience, I feel pretty confident about having a solid birth team. 

So - do I need a doula again? Did anyone here use a doula for second, third, etc. births? What was your experience? I'd love to hear from you!

    We've hired one for a subsequent birth.  Like you said, our doula , too, was amazing and very instrumental in helping me have the birth I wanted.  So yes, I'd recommend getting another one - you won't regret getting one, you'll only regret not getting one.

    I used one for my second birth - she turned out to be pretty important, as my homebirth was unplanned. She cleaned up my kitchen, and that was no small task. She also kept me calm through a crazy experience.

    I did trade my prenatal appointments with her into post-natal support. I've got 3 hours waiting for me to arrange with her to come and do whatever we need - like cook a nice supper. I didn't feel I needed the education/birth plan writing/etc. prenatal stuff, but was very glad for the birth support.

    I was very happy with our doula the first time around, but we didn't feel it necessary to have one with our second child, nor will we have one this time. Like you said, we've done it already and feel confident In proceeding without.

    That said, I have had hospital births, not home births, so our situation is different.
