Anybosy else thiking of this?

I'm a very active person, I am a dance coach (to which I'm not working right now) but I love to
Run and do all sorts of things. I know you should take it easy the fort Tri but I'm going into 2nd Tri in 3 weeks and was maybe looking into doing some prenatal yoga. Anybody does this or knows someone who does it? Good idea? Bad? Feedback is appreciated

Re: Anybosy else thiking of this?

  • I have never done it but my FIL teaches it. The women he works swear by it and said it really helped with their labor and birth. I haven't done it soley because I have rheumatoid arthritis and two hip replacements, and it's just not for me.

  • My doctor recommended prenatal yoga, walking, golf and other low impact activities to stay healthy throughout the entire pregnancy.

  • I just bought a prenatal yoga dvd to try out this weekend. I'm a yoga and pilates teacher and I still do the regular practice but I thought it would be nice to have someone else lead me through a practice instead of myself. There are many different styles of yoga so if you try something and don't like it, try something else. I also think the teacher makes or breaks the class more than the style.

  • The general rule is as long as you did it prior to pregnancy, you can continue in pregnancy.  I did prenatal yoga a few times last time, but I wasn't a fan.  However it was my first time doing yoga and I just can't get on board with the idea behind it (all the silly terms and things they say during the poses), and I am overweight already and I think it's just harder to do the poses and moves when you're not already in decent shape.

It may have been coincidence but I spotted a couple times after I exercised (not sure if I did after yoga or not) so I don't feel comfortable doing anything except walking.  However I am also high risk and on pelvic rest, so high intensity work outs wouldn't be good for me.  Run it by your doctor if you're still not sure.

  • I'm all for it! I love yoga and being active! I am having a hard first tri with fatigue and ms, but I still try to be active when I can and if I have gas pains or need to relieve stress I'll do yoga. I definitely want to try prenatal yoga once 2nd tri comes!

  • Also, unless your dr/midwife told you to take it easy because of specific circumstances, it's usually fine to continue doing what you were doing before your BFP and listen to your body if you need to tone it down. I'm still running and lifting with my midwife's happy approval.

If your body is used to it there is no reason to stop in the first place, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Don't worry and go for it
This. You can safely continue to do whatever workouts you were doing before pregnancy throughout your entire pregnancy. Obviously contact sports might be a bad idea, but otherwise, if it feels good, keep doing it.

  • I love yoga. I have just been doing regular yoga classes at my gym with modifications ( they told me to do or I looked up). I wasn't too much of a yogie before but I was doing intense cycling and some weight lifting and felt more comfortable doing yoga then those two. So ive been doing yoga ever since I found out I was pregnant :)

I am also a dance coach and am struggling with the same thing. I have cut out my running for the time being in place of doing more walking. I am still doing yoga, Pilates, body-weight strength exercises, and dance/Zumba with my team. I definitely have not been able to do as much as usual and I am trying to just really listen to my body and not push too hard. The jumping portion of all activities has been eliminated! My body shut that down right away!

  • I am a yoga fiend! I can't wait until the MS and fatigue fade so I can go back to being active.. I think it will be fine. A girlfriend of mine just had a baby last week and she swears prenatal yoga made her birthing experience an enjoyable one!!
  • Like many of other have said, there is not reason not to exercise even in first tri.  (Unless your doctor told you to or you are high risk.)

Both this and last pregnancy I rode horses through first tri (which is only okay if you are an experienced rider on solid horses. . . but I digress), I'm also continuing to run and we take lots of long walks.  This summer I bought a "prenatal" work-out DVD.  Haven't tried it yet, but it will probably be my exercise outlet once the cold whether hits.

  • I haven't exercised in a week because I've felt so sick.  My goal for the weekend is a yoga class tomorrow - wish me luck!
