I wasn't "trying" anything. I love me a good debate. I posted this on UO specifically FOR a debate (as many people have done in the past). I am happy people are so passionate about the "term " debate. I like hearing other people's thoughts. I actually am a PICU/NICU nurse, and this topic actually is NOT a debate in my work field. Just a difference IRL vs Aug 13. Flame away, whatevs. Just my UO for the week!

Hasn't this been hashed out enough? You want to go at it again? I don't think you are getting the response you want b.c it's all been said 100 times, we are over it.

On the college degree topic:
It drives me nuts that I will be paying off student loans for years and out of the 7 of us that have my job only one other person has a degree.

I hate when you look for jobs it lists 20 different minimum requirements but then you find out the person who has that job or the job above you doesn't even have a degree so why are they requiring it for new hires.

Per many recruiters that my DH and I have dealt with - a college degree shows a commitment and an ability to achieve a goal. There are other things that can demonstrate the same thing, i.e. military experience. Also having 5, 10, 15 years experience in a field often outweighs a degree. The downside to no degree can sometimes be that you will reach a salary cap faster than someone with a degree.

I won't even begin to touch on how a NICU nurse thinks 37 weeks is "full term".

I guess I am trying to get over how you contradicted the shit out of yourself by opening your statement with the line you hate the debate and then a few posts later say you posted the topic to create the debate. Not understanding the logic there.

Me too. I don't know how you can "hate" a debate but also want to debate at the same time. It makes zero sense. I'm just going to conclude that she wanted to start drama.

Also, it scares me she's a NICU/PICU nurse, considering that plenty of babies born at 37 weeks need to have NICU stays. It boggles the mind.

Along the same lines, I hate when someone buys a decent camera, takes a few family pics and then considers themselves a professional and starts charging $200 bucks for photo shoots. Maybe it's just me but I see this all.the.time.

As far as me terrifying you for being a nurse.. Yikes! My point in saying that I was an RN was to say at my hospital, we don't debate the "term" convo like we do here. It had nothing to do with me being good at my job. I never meant for this to explode like it did!

While I agree that people who aren't professionals shouldn't call their photography "professional", it's not really anyone's job to make sure photographers aren't struggling, even if they are talented. It isn't in our budget right now to get professional pictures (neither for maternity or for newborn), so that mean's we'll be taking our own. Of course, I would never dream of trying to say they are professionally done.

I agree! But I am also one of the few that has a photographer for a best friend lol I was pretty sad when it didn't work out for her to take maternity photos and all of the bridals and engagement photos due to her living two hours away.

Comfort nursing early on really helps milk supply, and for a newborn suckling is a need that can't be fulfilled by other methods. Some babes refuse pacis though, it can be frustrating. I think we went through 3 or 4 different kinds before we found one that the babes would take.

Sorry, but I think my pictures are gorgeous and my mom totally took them. She also took my engagement photos for me. I've never tried to "pass them off" as professional, and am willing to tell everyone that my mom took them.

If photographers weren't so over-priced, maybe more people would hire them.

So I guess that's a UO of mine: If you were really that hard up for clients you should probably not charge out the ass for photos. Also, if you can't make a living being a photographer, maybe it's time for plan B.

I simply showed a source that said this as an example of a place that says it's full term. Clearly the fact that there is even a debate shows that sources are not ALL medically sound ie the bump.

So I don't call myself a professional photographer because I don't make a living off of it, but I do have a degree in it and am pretty damn good.

On the topic of those fauxtogs who buy a good camera and are instantly a "business", they wouldn't be my competition if I were to actually go into business. There is a market for those types, and that market isn't mine. Mine would be one that values good photography, and all the knowledge I have that comes with it.

If anything, the economy being a bit busted right now would be the reason people aren't splurging as much on photography, but that's a cop out too because the mall shops charge an arm and a leg and they aren't hurting for business.

WTF is wrong with you? Anyone with a half a brain should be able to figure out that a "source" like TB is not remotely equal to or debatable with a source like ACOG.

Oh yes. I totally agree. There is a HUGE difference between professional photos and snapshots.

Since I have a feeling this is directed at my UO earlier, I in no way implied the photos I took of ds are anywhere near professional grade, they are just snapshots in his baby book. But I'm happy with that. So that's why I skipped NB ones.

I'm not the type to have tons of pictures displayed in my home. I have a few recent ones we had professionally done hung, but mostly they are in baby books.

It seems to be what works. Im open to suggestions. But i cant seem to figure out anything else.

I can't stand it when parents let their kids watch tv and play on computers and iPads and such all or most of the day... Take that kid outside! Parks, the zoo, backyard, or something! Or play a board game, bake a cake, or actually read to them and play with them! I know so many people that will turn the tv on for their child and leave them in front of it for hours. I can't stand it!
