August 2013 Moms

Heard a new one today...

I went to the grocery store this morning... I want a t shirt that says "Aug 10. Girl. Third child."

Anyway, I was in the store, reaching up to the top shelf to get something down, when this little old lady comes barreling around the corner, yelling at me to stop. She said raising my arms over my head could cause the baby to strangle on it's umbilical cord. Didn't my doc teach me anything?!?

Definitely a new one for me! Lol

I was also yelled at for being in the store when I am due in a few days, carrying my own groceries, and not staying home and keeping my feet up.

Anyone else being yelled at by people they don't know for random things?

  • i've heard the arms raising thing.  interesting someone approached you in the store.

  • New to me lol. People are unbelievable lol
  • I think I look too much like a linebacker for anyone to truly F(*$ck with me at this point. And I look mean in general.  lol

That is a new one.  I think i would have torn that woman a new butthole for raising her voice to me this late in the game.
  • But the real question is...Did she offer to get it for you?  I bet she didn't!

Nope. The people telling me I shouldn't carry anything didn't offer to help me either. Lol

Ugh. This.  I bet she didn't too!  She thinks all your stuff with get miraculously done!
  • I've luckily been offered help with groceries, boxes, etc. I haven't gotten any rude comments yet.

  • I've heard the saying about the arms, but I've never had some stranger yell at me for it. Weird people. I am getting a lot of annoying judgy comments though because I look young. Had some lady at the doc's office grill me about if I was married, do I have a job, etc.

  • My grandma told me that too- that I shouldn't lift my arms above my head because I will kill my baby. She didn't tell me why but strangulation makes perrrrrrfect sense. She is also the one who told me that climbing stairs will kill baby so I don't really take much of what she says seriously.

  • I have been getting lots of those comments. Where I am no one offers anything or is very nice though. I have had people slam on brakes and lay on their horn when I am crossing the crosswalk at the grocery store. I know that I am slow and waddling but seriously? I promise if I could put more hustle in my step I would. No one up here opens doors, and they love to park so close that sometimes I can't get into my car so I have to wait for someone to leave before I can get in. In this area I am fairly sure the concept of being nicer to pregnant women is a myth,

  • A like 95 year old guy yelled at me for picking up his keys that he dropped at the grocery store. Trust me he looked way more fragile than I am.

  • Everytime i go out with ds i can not look away for two seconds without someone trying to touch him.

At target the other day i was checking out and literally looked away from him long enough to slide my wallet into my purse and the lady behind me started going to take him out of his car seat.

I need to start looking more intimidating.

I was appalled. I was like what are you doing? She literally justified herself by saying he was just to cute she couldnt help herself.

Ugh people, do not touch my son if i dont know you. Baby starved wingnuts.

  • I just. Im done. If im holding him people will get uncomfortably close to me and start talking to him. I walk away at that point. I hate people so much.

The last four times I've gone to the grocery store, the clerk or bagger has offered to help me load my groceries. Every time, I've said "thanks, I'm fine!" And every time, the bagger has mysteriously chosen that moment to come to the parking lot to collect carts, and come up behind me to hand me the bags out of my cart and then take my cart for me.
I haven't had any baggers go to that extreme, but they annoy the crap out of me when I say I don't need help and they keep insisting and won't let go of my cart. I know they are just trying to be helpful, but I can only smile and say "no thank you" so many times. I have been on the verge of asking to speak to a manager about it before. Stop holding my groceries hostage and let me leave the store!

  • This past weekend I was yelled at multiple times for bending over to pick something up...they yell and then continue to watch me do it while shaking their head but not moving an inch to grab why I dropped.

  • I had a lady take my cart at the grocery the other day. The heat index was 104. It was seriously a godsend.
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • My DH's grandmother told me this! She said her husband would wash her hair for her the last trimester so the umbilical cord would strangle the baby. I was like HUHHHHHHH??????
  • Gotta love the stupid old wives tales. Iowans are scary polite in general so I haven't had any issues with people being like that but I have gotten one you don't look big enough to be due the 30th and my husband gives me a hard time about moving furniture. Ok then whatever you want to do for me do it but it will be on my time table or I will do it anyway.

  • The checkout lady at the drugstore the other day told me I shouldn't be walking around alone this late in my pregnancy. I was literally a block from my apartment. I love the idea that 1) I should just stay in my apartment for like a month before the baby comes (what about doctor's appointments?) and/or 2) my husband should just quit his job and spend that last month staring at me in case I go into labor!

Me, EXACTLY. This is just my face! Believe me, it can look bitchier if needed!!!

I would have freaked the eff out! No way!

This past weekend a lady at the grocery store (it must be grocery stores that are the problem), looked at me and said, "That's gonna be a big baby, huh?"

    *sigh*

Im in love with this cause its true. I also think people think i need help because i look like a teenager.

  • I have been super lucky with the belly touching except today my friend's almost 5 year old kept trying to put her hands up my shirt at the farmer's market. I was less than thrilled. For the most part people leave me alone when it comes to my pregnancy but I am not sure if it is because there are a ton of pregnant people who live near me or because I look like a bitch.

  • I've been asked, "are you still driving?" Ummm... Yes, how else would I get to my weekly appointments, run errands, and other things that NEED to be done?!? My husband can't take time off before the baby, I need him for when the baby is actually here!!! I've got 10 days until I'm due and I need to drive until then for appointments.

Hopefully I won't have to drive myself to the hospital for labor though!! Gotta get some cab numbers programmed in my phone! We live in the suburbs and DH works downtown, gotta be prepared!
  • I got scolded by coworkers last week for being over to put a ream of paper in the printer....drawer was not that far down and I lean down further to get into the bottom drawer of my credenza filing drawers.... it was a bit dramatic.

  • I would love to get a shirt like that too!!! Anyway, I get this all the time. My moms friends constantly telling me about my swollen feet and why am I not sitting down. It's not like we're dying here!! I've heard about the raised arms thing but its not a proven fact, just a wives take I believe. I'm scheduled for a C-Section Tuesday the 13th.
  • I got yelled at for holding an 18 mo old, because apparently I'm not supposed to do that while pregnant.
